Font de Randa and Creu de terme de Randa are two historical points of interest in the town. Nearby, Santuari de Cura sits on Puig de Randa, with a hiking trail leading there from Randa. When planning your trip, the town’s history and a nearby destination offer distinct areas of focus.

Water engineering and a cross in the town

Font de Randa is an Arab water-engineering structure (qanat). Historically, it supplied public washing areas covered by a portico. The site can therefore be understood in terms of two aspects: the water technology itself and the public washing area it supplied. For travellers interested in historical infrastructure, the focus is on how the water system and washing areas fit together; the portico also shapes the architectural form of the washing area.

Creu de terme de Randa dates from the 16th or 17th century. It stands a few metres from Font de Randa, at the intersection of Carrer de la Creu and Carrer de la Font. The dating leaves both centuries as possibilities. While the historical function of the water system is the focus at Font de Randa, the dating and precise location place the cross in its historical and geographical context. The two sites are close to one another but have different points of interest.

The route to Santuari de Cura

A 5 km hiking trail leads from Randa to Santuari de Cura on Puig de Randa, with a gentle uphill gradient. The surface is unpaved, and painted or stone markers indicate the route. The distance, gentle incline, surface and markers are practical details to help you plan. These trail features provide different information about the route; check the conditions on site before setting off.

The historical context of Santuari de Cura includes the Aula de GramĂ tica of the former Cura College, dating from the 17th century, and a Marian oratory. The Aula adjoins the small church and now houses a museum. The historic setting brings together several features: the former college, the church, its current use as a museum and the Marian oratory.

The Ruta Llull as a plan at the time

An announcement by the municipality of Algaida said that two routes were planned for early 2023 as part of the Ruta Llull: one on foot and one for cycling tourism. Both were to run from Algaida via the former 13th-century church of Castellitx and Randa to Ermita de Sant Honorat and the summit of Puig de Randa. The same sequence of places was planned for both routes; they differed in their planned mode of travel. This route plan should be distinguished from the 5 km hiking trail to Santuari de Cura: it leads to different destinations and forms part of a different route network.
