Banyalbufar: Terraced Landscape between the Serra de Tramuntana and the Sea

Banyalbufar is a municipality in southwestern Mallorca in the Serra de Tramuntana. Its mountainous landscape is connected to the sea via Port del Canonge. The landscape is considered to be characterized by stepped agricultural terraces extending towards the sea; between the mountains and the coast are cultivated areas and Mediterranean scrubland.

Nature

Banyalbufar lies within the Serra de Tramuntana, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2011. The surrounding area of Banyalbufar includes the Mirador de Ricardo Roca and Puig Galatzó. Playa Port des Canonge is also located nearby. Thus, viewpoints, mountains, and the coast come together in the geographical areas around Banyalbufar, although the individual places are not all at the same distance.

Active pursuits

Banyalbufar provides access to hiking and cycling routes that connect coastal and mountain landscapes. These include the long-distance Pedra en Sec GR-221 trail, which runs through the Serra de Tramuntana. The combination of coastal views and mountain scenery is already inherent in the character of these routes.

Getting there

Access to Banyalbufar is primarily by road. From Palma, the Ma-1040 continues through Esporles to the Ma-1100 and then to the Ma-10.
