San Francisco de Paula can be explored through different travel interests: sports venues and a park in the area, its location along the GC-800, a circular hiking route towards Bandama, and historical traces. When choosing a hotel, you can decide whether you are particularly interested in local sports, the protected landscape of Tafira, or the area's past.

Sports Venues and Park

The “San Francisco de Paula” sports facility is located at Calle Isla de la Graciosa, s/n. San Francisco de Paula also has a futsal court and a sports ground. If you plan to use one of these facilities, check the latest information in the municipal sports system; in particular, verify the dynamic listing for the futsal court before your visit.

The Isla de la Graciosa health park is at Calle Isla de la Graciosa, opposite number 52. The park is therefore on the same street as the sports facility. The sports facility is listed as s/n, while number 52 serves as a reference point for the park. These different address details can help you distinguish the two locations when planning your visit.

Bandama and the Landscape of Tafira

The Bandama Natural Monument comprises the caldera and peak of Bandama and lies within the Paisaje Protegido de Tafira. The peak offers far-reaching panoramic views. It is therefore the specific viewpoint, while Tafira is the larger protected landscape.

The Paisaje Protegido de Tafira is a landscape of volcanoes aligned from northwest to southeast. It includes scattered acebuchales and lentiscales, as well as occasional dragon trees, palms, and almácigos. These different features offer two perspectives for planning your trip: the view from the peak of Bandama and the volcanic formations and plant communities of the wider Tafira landscape.

Route and Directions

A circular hiking route completed in March 2018 went from San Francisco de Paula via Los Hoyos to the foot of Bandama, then climbed the slope to the peak. If you want to use this route as a guide for a hike today, check trail conditions and access in advance.

The settlement of San Francisco de Paula lies on both sides of the GC-800. The road runs from Tafira to Sabinal and Marzagán and connects to the ring road. This information helps you locate the settlement within the road network. When planning a drive, take current road conditions into account.

Historical Traces

The historic Hacienda de San Francisco de Paula included vineyards, wooded areas, and farmland. The estate also had a house with an upper and ground floor, a kitchen, a wine press, and a wine cellar. Together, these features paint a picture of agricultural use, from cultivation to winemaking and storage.

A will named Capitán Luis Romero Jaraquemada as his successor and instructed him to maintain the Ermita. It also required that Mass be celebrated there on Sundays and public holidays. This arrangement adds another historical aspect of the area to its agricultural past.
