Panticosa offers different ways to enjoy a stay: elevated walkways through a gorge, alpine routes, thermal experiences and historic buildings each provide a different focus. You can therefore organize your destinations according to whether you mainly want to spend time outdoors, visit the thermal baths or learn about cultural history.

Hiking Trails and Mountain Excursions

The Pasarelas de Panticosa route follows suspended walkways along the gorge of the Río Caldarés. The route is 700 meters long, takes approximately one hour and has an elevation gain of 160 meters. Its course along the gorge gives the route a clear connection to the landscape. Since organizational arrangements may change, check the latest information about the route before your visit.

An alpine section of the GR 11 Senda Pirenaica begins at the Casa de Piedra mountain refuge in the Balneario de Panticosa area. This means that, in addition to the suspended walkway route, Panticosa also offers a starting point for an alpine route. Mountain conditions vary.

The Telecabina de Panticosa reaches an altitude of 1,900 meters on a 15-minute ride. From its upper station, trails lead to the Asnos and Sabocos glacial lakes. The Telecabina operates seasonally; its operating dates may change. Check the latest operating information if you plan to include the ride in your excursion.

The Tren de Alta Montaña El Sarrio takes visitors into a valley in 55 minutes. There, a network of well-marked trails leads to waterfalls, mountain refuges and high-altitude lakes. The time estimates for the Pasarelas and the Tren refer to different parts of an excursion: approximately one hour for the route and 55 minutes for the ride into the valley. When considering both figures, plan for the walk and the ride as separate time periods. The timetables for this seasonal service may change; check the times in advance.

Thermal Baths and the Tradition of the Waters

The Balneario de Panticosa is a thermal spa at an altitude of 1,636 meters. Its waters were already used by the Romans. From 1870, the Balneario developed into one of the country's most renowned health resorts. Its elevation and history give the place a different focus from the routes through the mountains.

The Termas de Tiberio have a heated outdoor pool with mountain views by day and views of the stars at night. Reservations are mandatory for the thermal circuit. Plan ahead before your visit and check the latest visitor information.

Buildings and Traditions

The Iglesia Parroquial de la Asunción de Ntra. Sra. Panticosa was built in the 16th century, around 1560, in the Late Gothic style. A stone bridge over the Río Caldarés also tells the story of the area's architecture: the master builder Beltrán de Betbedé, who came from Béarn, built it in 1556 over an earlier wooden bridge.

The main festival takes place in mid-August in honor of the Assumption of Mary and Saint Roch on August 15 and 16. Traditional customs during the patron saint festivities include the Pastorada and Palotiau. The specific program may vary from year to year; if you would like to travel for the occasion, check the dates and the festival program for that year.
