Hoz De Jaca offers several specific points to consider when planning your trip: views of the Búbal Reservoir, trails towards Panticosa, Santa Elena and Biescas, as well as a Baroque church and an August tradition. When looking for a hotel, you can match these features to the focus of your stay—for example, nature watching, hiking or visiting during the festivities in honour of San Lorenzo. Hoz De Jaca is accessible by car via El Pueyo de Jaca.

Views and nature watching

The Mirador del Muro is a balcony suspended above the Búbal Reservoir. It is located at an altitude of 1,270 metres and offers views across the valley and over the reservoir. At the Mirador de Hoz de Jaca, you can use binoculars and a telescope to observe migratory birds, large birds of prey and birds that inhabit rocky areas. The two viewpoints therefore offer different focuses for your plans: views of the valley and reservoir, or birdwatching.

The Tirolina Valle de Tena starts at the Mirador de Hoz de Jaca and runs for 950 metres over the Búbal Reservoir, at a height of more than 20 metres. If you plan to try this activity, check the current operating and booking conditions beforehand, as operating conditions may change.

Trails with different landscape features

The Camino Frazacoz runs north from Hoz De Jaca to Panticosa. The route passes through a dense boxwood forest with lush vegetation and follows the shady side of the slope. The river is an important feature of the Camino de Santa Elena y Biescas: the trail runs from Hoz De Jaca along the left bank of the Río Gállego to Santa Elena. From there, you can continue along the same bank to Biescas. By comparison, the Frazacoz route focuses on forest and the shady side of the slope, while this trail follows the riverbank, leads to Santa Elena and offers the option of continuing onwards.

A forestry track starting in the municipality of Hoz De Jaca runs for about 12 kilometres to the mountain lakes of Sabocos and Asnos and offers exceptional views. Solpena starts in Hoz De Jaca at the Vicen Bridge. The municipal project “Apadrina tu sendero,” described in October 2015, included the restoration of paths and footpaths for hiking, as well as the care of the municipality’s ethnographic heritage.

Church, monument and August festivities

The Parish Church of Santos Reyes is a Baroque church dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The monument to transhumance in Hoz De Jaca honours transhumance. The local history thus brings together Baroque architecture and recognition of this tradition.

The festivities in Hoz De Jaca are held in August in honour of San Lorenzo. The dinner featuring Oveja a la pastora takes place in the village square on 14 August and is prepared by the residents. If you would like to plan your stay around this date, check the festival dates for your year of travel.
