El Viso Del Alcor: Architecture, Festivals and Olive Oil
Accommodation in El Viso Del Alcor
El Viso Del Alcor offers several ways to enjoy a stay: historic buildings, local festivals, trails and experiences centered around olive oil. When planning your trip, you can decide whether architecture, an event, outdoor activity or local cuisine should be your focus.
Architecture and Local History
The clock tower of the former town hall stands in Plaza del Ayuntamiento. It dates from the mid-19th century, is designed in the Neo-Gothic style and has a clock facing the square. The tower thus combines the former town hall’s function with a distinctive Neo-Gothic design.
The Monastery of the Discalced Mercedarians of Corpus Christi was built between 1604 and 1617. The Corpus Christi complex includes the surviving cloister and the monastery staircase, as well as the church. The parish church of Santa MarĂa del Alcor has a different building history: it was built between 1470 and the beginning of the 16th century on the site of a former Franciscan hermitage. Designed in the Hispano-MudĂ©jar style, it has three naves. Three naves means that the church interior is divided into three longitudinal sections.
The Chapel of the Rosary is located in the former Casa de los Pájaros building, where grain was stored. The historic town center also has stately homes dating from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. These residences complement the religious buildings with a different type of architecture and extend the historic perspective across several centuries. The Casa de los Pájaros also illustrates the change in use from grain store to chapel.
Festivals and When to Visit
The Festival de Cante Grande has been held in September since 1980. The Santa Cruz festival has been celebrated in May since ancient times and originated at the same time as the town. May and September therefore mark two different windows for a culture-focused trip. If one of the festivals is a deciding factor for your travel dates, check the specific event dates in advance.
Trails and Outdoor Activities
The Sendero Mágico de los Alcores is a circular hiking trail. The VĂa Verde de Los Alcores also runs near El Viso Del Alcor, connecting Alcalá de GuadaĂra with Carmona. The two trail descriptions differ in how they are presented: the Sendero is described as circular, while the VĂa Verde is described as a connection between towns. Check the VĂa Verde’s specific access points locally.
A municipal notice from March 2023 describes a permanent calisthenics area with multifunctional exercise equipment in Parque de La Muela. Check the condition of the facility before your visit.
Local Cuisine
Launched in June 2025, the “Menudo es el Viso” food route takes visitors to 23 restaurants and bars in El Viso Del Alcor that serve menudo, a dish typical of the town. Participating venues may change, so check the current selection before visiting.
