Discover Torrequebrada: Coast, Golf and History
Accommodation in Torrequebrada
Torrequebrada brings together several interests that you can weigh up when choosing where to stay: Playa de Torrequebrada, Paseo Marítimo, Golf Torrequebrada, and historic and contemporary art. If you are looking for a hotel in Torrequebrada, you can first consider whether the beach, golf or cultural attractions are central to your trip. The area’s features can help you weigh up these priorities in practical terms.
Beach and Paseo Marítimo
Playa de Torrequebrada is considered an urban beach, with moderate wave conditions for swimming. Access on foot is considered difficult. These are two separate considerations for planning your visit: the wave conditions affect swimming, while the foot access affects the route to the beach. If Playa is important to your stay, take both into account.
There is a viewpoint on the upper level of Paseo Marítimo de Torrequebrada. A staircase leads from the road to the promenade. This provides other specific features to help you find your way, in addition to the beach’s swimming conditions: the viewpoint and the stairway access. You can also assess the promenade on its own merits, independently of the beach environment.
A route along the Senda Litoral
The section of the Senda Litoral named “Torrequebrada – Conexión Paseo Marítimo” is listed as in use in a 2026 status overview and is given as 1,513 metres long. As the status and measurements may change, check these details before planning a walk. The length provides a specific reference point for planning your route; the swimming conditions at Playa and a named route are separate aspects of trip planning.
Golf and landscape
Golf Torrequebrada has 18 holes, was established in 1976 and was designed by José Gancedo. The founding year and design attribution provide different historical and design-related points of reference for the course. The fairways are lined with palm, pine and olive trees. Golf Torrequebrada offers views of the Mediterranean and the mountains. For golf enthusiasts, the vegetation and views described here are part of the area’s appeal, along with the number of holes.
Watchtower and history
The Torre Vigía de Torrequebrada is believed to have been built by Muslims on a steep rise at Punta Negra. The tower is cylindrical and seven metres high. Its strategic location provided a view of the Alboran Sea coast. Fire and smoke could be used to communicate with other towers and nearby settlements. The coastal view and this means of communication complement each other as aspects of its strategic role.
Torre Quebrada is part of the Islamic medieval network of watchtowers along this coast. It was rebuilt in its present geometry at the end of the 16th century. Its history therefore includes an original construction described as an assumption, followed by a later building phase that is dated and explains the tower’s current form.
Art in the tunnel
During a Liga Nacional de Grafiti event in September 2025, the tunnel next to the Torrequebrada Casino was transformed into an open-air art gallery. On 15 September 2025, the municipality announced that ten artworks were on permanent display in the tunnel. If the artworks are important to your plans, check in advance what is currently on view. This allows you to consider this dated art event as a distinct cultural highlight alongside the history of the watchtower.
