La Sierrezuela between Sierra Morena and the Vega del Guadalquivir

La Sierrezuela Park is located in the municipality of Posadas in Córdoba; it also lies in the transition area between Sierra Morena and the Vega del Guadalquivir. La Sierrezuela is a distinctive natural area within the municipality: the peri-urban park covers 384 hectares. The area is also known for its population of palmito (dwarf fan palms). Together with the historic parts of the town, it offers a varied picture of Posadas’ landscape and cultural heritage.

The walking trail in the park begins at a small kiosk with a bar. Facilities include showers, parking integrated into the surroundings, an equestrian area, drinking fountains, tables and a kitchen. Check the condition and operation of the facilities on site before your visit. Long-distance trail GR-48 crosses the municipality of Posadas on stages 14 and 15. This route information refers to the municipality; check trail conditions and signage before setting out.

Historic Areas and Buildings

The Barrio de la Morería is considered the oldest part of Posadas. Its organically developed street layout is typical of Hispano-Arabic settlements; the neighbourhood is considered to have both historical and landscape value. Its evolved layout provides a distinctive way to explore the town’s history, alongside its individual buildings and places of remembrance.

The Ermita de Jesús is an 18th-century Baroque church on the old royal road from Córdoba to Seville. Access to the interior may depend on local religious schedules, so check current visiting arrangements before your visit. The Eduardo Torroja Bridge is also architecturally distinctive: it is 235 metres long and has seven concrete piers and a metal structure with eight inverted truss arches.

The Arquito preserves the remains of a gate from the former Castle of Posadas and has been classified as a Bien de Interés Cultural (B.I.C.) since 2006. At the top is a chapel-like place of worship containing an image of the Virgen de los Remedios. Access is through the Oficina de Turismo premises; check local opening arrangements in advance. Calle Gaitán is another trace of the past: it was once a caliphal road, a royal road and a livestock drovers’ route.

Regional Cuisine and Olive-Growing Tradition

Posadas’ culinary tradition includes Rinran Maleno, Bienmesabe, Queso de Cerdo and Sopa de Ajo. If you would like to try any of these dishes, check availability directly with the restaurants. This keeps the introduction to local cuisine tied to specific specialities without assuming they are available everywhere.

The Archivo Virtual de Gastronomía Malena preserves unique copies dating from 1830, as well as another copy from 1875 containing more than 300 recipes from Posadas’ culinary tradition. It offers an archival way to explore these traditional recipes; it does not include a tasting experience. Olive growing also shapes the town’s culinary tradition. Olives are picked directly from the trees at the optimal point of ripeness and cold-milled to produce extra virgin olive oil. If you are planning to visit a producer or make a purchase, check the relevant arrangements separately.
