Incahuasi: an archaeological site

Incahuasi is considered the most important archaeological Inca site on the Peruvian coast. The site includes an urban complex, ceremonial courtyards, an Ushnu, a fortress, accommodation for soldiers and granaries. These areas represent different aspects of an archaeological site: urban structure, ceremonies, fortification, accommodation and storage. This range makes Incahuasi interesting if you are interested not only in individual structures, but also in the various functions of a site. The components can be viewed together, rather than focusing on just one type of building.

The route there can also be factored into your plans: the official access route from the Plaza de Armas de Lunahuaná to the archaeological site is 9.2 kilometres long. The drive in a private car is stated to take 14 minutes; actual travel time may vary. So allow for this time as a guide when planning your visit.

Río Cañete: activities and wildlife

Tourist activities take place within the district of Lunahuaná along the Catapalla–Socsi section of the Río Cañete. The area is home to, among others, small herons, blue herons, rails and ducks, as well as prawns, catfish, silversides and crabs. The species mentioned therefore include birds, fish and other aquatic animals. For nature enthusiasts, this stretch of the river offers a different focus from the archaeological site: here, the emphasis is on river activities and the wildlife found there.

Bodega El Sol in Langla

Bodega El Sol is located in the hamlet of Langla in the district of Lunahuaná. This old winery produces Pisco and wine. Visitors can take a tour of the production process and sample its wines and Piscos. This brings two aspects together: an insight into production and a tasting of the products. If you plan to visit the winery, check the latest visitor arrangements before your trip.

Commemorating Japanese immigration

In Cerro Azul, the Parque de la Conmemoración a la Inmigración Japonesa commemorates the arrival of the ship Sakura Maru. On April 3, 1899, 226 Japanese immigrants arrived aboard the ship. The memorial park thus marks a specific historical event: the commemoration is tied to a named ship, a particular date and a number of arrivals. For travellers interested in migration history, this adds a different kind of historical remembrance to the archaeological perspective of Incahuasi.

Lomas de Asia and the landscape

The Lomas de Asia extend from 200 to 1,000 metres above sea level. The wildlife found along the Río Cañete shapes its nature focus, while elevation is the defining feature of the Lomas. These two perspectives can be considered separately when planning your trip, depending on whether you are more interested in river wildlife or the landscape.

Find a hotel to suit your travel plans

When looking for a hotel in Cañete, it is worth first deciding what you want to focus on during your stay, then comparing a property’s exact location with the places you plan to visit. For Incahuasi, the access route from the Plaza de Armas de Lunahuaná provides a specific planning guide: 9.2 kilometres and, by private car, 14 minutes, although travel time may vary. If you plan to visit the winery, you should also check the latest visitor arrangements.
