Discover La Calera
Accommodation in La Calera
La Calera combines cultural attractions in town with destinations in the municipality and the wider travel area. Depending on the focus of your trip, you can give different weight to local culture, views, and guided hikes.
Colonial Architecture and Festivals
Casa Municipal is considered an important example of colonial architecture and a representative administrative meeting center for La Calera. Its design and municipal function combine architectural interest with the town’s public life.
The free Festival del Sol y la AstronomĂa takes place at Parque Principal. It offers an academic, cultural, and scientific program for the whole family. The Festival del Patiasao honors the history and traditions of La Calera and provides the community and visitors with a space for cultural and artistic exchange. The festivals have different focuses: the Festival del Sol y la AstronomĂa centers on its wide-ranging program, while the Patiasao focuses on the town’s history and traditions, as well as exchange. If you want to plan your trip around one of the festivals, check the event dates before you travel.
Cerro de La Pita in the Municipality
Cerro de La Pita is located in the veredas of La Toma, San José, and San Rafael, about ten minutes from the town center. Bogotá and La Calera are visible from there, and paragliders also take off from the hill. Its views and paragliding launches give Cerro de La Pita a different character from the cultural sites in town.
Hiking in Chingaza National Natural Park
The wider travel area includes Chingaza National Natural Park, which spans several municipalities, including La Calera. The park offers guided hikes on authorized trails, as day trips or with overnight stays. The trails include De los Sentidos, Suasie, Laguna Seca, Plantas del Camino-Laguna de Chingaza, Lagunas de Siecha, Cuchillas de Siecha, and Lagunas de Buitrago. De los Sentidos is accessible. The trails should be considered in the context of the national park as a whole; the offering is therefore part of the wider travel area. The visit format and trail name offer different guidance for planning.
Access to the Park
One access route to Chingaza National Natural Park begins in the town center of La Calera. It passes the ruins of Cementos Samper and goes through the vereda of Buenos Aires to the Piedras Gordas checkpoint (22 km farther on), then continues another 28 km to the Monterredondo administrative center. This route describes access to the park and should be distinguished from the hiking trails inside it. Route details may change; check the park’s current access conditions before you travel.
