Navidad: Museum, Local History and Public Routes
Accommodation in Navidad
Navidad can be explored for travel planning through two specific themes: the Museo Municipal Histórico y Natural de Navidad, which focuses on the municipality’s natural, cultural and social heritage, and the transport connections between Navidad, Litueche and several places within the municipality. There is also a local tradition about the first mass held at the site of today’s central square. This allows you to consider the town both in terms of cultural interests and the connections relevant to your trip.
Public Routes and Road Connections
Two public transport routes subsidized by Chile’s transport authority, SEREMI de Transporte, depart from Plaza de Navidad. One runs via Navidad, Licancheu, Rapel and San Vicente de Pucalán to Litueche; the other also goes to Litueche, via Navidad, Matanzas, Vega de Pupuya, Pupuya, Los Mayos and Valle Hidalgo. Both also serve rural areas of the municipality. They differ mainly in the places they pass through, while Litueche is their shared destination. Each route has one trip in the morning and one in the afternoon. Since transport services and route patterns can change, check the current timetable before traveling.
Navidad is also connected internally to Rapel, Matanzas, La Boca and Boca de Pupuya by road: Route G-880 leads to Rapel, G-890 to Matanzas, I-882 to La Boca and G-910 to Boca de Pupuya. The road numbers distinguish these connections from the public routes that pass through several places on their way to Litueche. If a particular road connection is important to your plans, check road conditions and the current route designation before driving.
Museum and Local History
The Museo Municipal Histórico y Natural de Navidad presents the municipality’s natural, cultural and social heritage. Its focus is therefore broader than the history of a single place, encompassing several aspects of life in the municipality. According to local tradition, the first mass was held on December 25, 1619, at the site of today’s central square in Navidad. Visitors can thus explore both a broad range of topics and a specific episode passed down as local tradition.
Different Local Themes
Navidad is classified regionally as a traditional settlement. The Formación Navidad is considered a regional natural area or natural attraction; the Cementerio de Navidad is a local cultural and historical site in the urban area of Navidad. These classifications distinguish the character of the settlement, a regional natural theme and local cultural history. If one of these topics particularly interests you, you can consider each separately when planning your trip, rather than treating them as the same kind of local history.
Local events associated with Navidad include the Feria de Productores de Navidad. If you would like to plan your stay around this fair, check the current dates in advance.
