When choosing a hotel in Uberlândia, it can help to decide in advance what you want to focus on during your trip. The municipal heritage and cultural venues offer a different focus from the lakes, trails and Cerrado vegetation in the parks. Practical details also vary: the cycling track in Parque do Sabiá is available during specific hours, while you should check again before your trip whether the trails in Parque Municipal Victório Siquierolli are usable.

Heritage and City History

Mercado Municipal de Uberlândia is protected as municipal historical heritage under Law No. 8,130 of October 29, 2002. The entry, VII, in the Livro do Tombo Histórico is on page 09. The protection covers the market building complex, its stone paving and the Figueira Branca tree. Mercado also serves as a venue for music concerts, theatre performances, film screenings, visual art exhibitions and performances. Protected heritage and diverse cultural formats meet here. If you would like to experience a particular format, check the event schedule for your travel dates.

Museu Municipal de Uberlândia is located in Palácio dos Leões, built between 1916 and 1917 by Cypriano Del Fávero. The building was protected as municipal historical heritage in 1985. The permanent exhibition “Nossas Raízes” has been on display since 2000 and explores the origins of the municipality of Uberlândia: from the establishment of the first Sesmarias to the formation of Arraial de São Pedro de Uberabinha around Igreja Nossa Senhora do Carmo. It looks at both early settlement and the development of a community. Before your visit, check whether and in what form the exhibition is currently on display.

Cultural Venues and Architecture

Centro Municipal de Cultura, at Praça Jacy de Assis, is a multifunctional venue with a library, rehearsal room, small theatre, art gallery and a space for various events. It occupies the former Fórum de Uberlândia building. The building was inaugurated in 1977 according to the basic principles of Brutalist architecture and designed by Roberto Pinto Monata and José Carlos Laender de Castro. In 2018, an agreement with Tribunal de Justiça de Minas Gerais transferred the building to the city. If you are interested in architecture, you can consider the former courthouse’s historic design alongside its current cultural use.

Lakes, Parks and Cerrado

At Parque do Sabiá, a large artificial lake offers the chance to go pedal boating and enjoy views of the landscape from a deck. Other, smaller lakes add to the park’s bodies of water. A wide cycling track is also available Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. These hours apply to the cycling track; check the current schedule before you arrive. The lake, deck and cycling track give the park different focuses: you can plan around time on the water, views of the landscape or cycling.

Parque Municipal Victório Siquierolli offers visitor facilities for recreation, nature observation and environmental education. Its Cerrado vegetation includes Pequi, Ingá, Sucupira, Copaíba, Araticum and Pau-Ferro trees. A visitor notice dated January 20, 2023, mentions trails for visitors to use; check their current availability before your trip. The park also features Cantinho das Abelhas and a Monjolo as part of Casinha de Sapê. The trees mentioned bring the Cerrado landscape to life, while the trails and park facilities offer a different way to experience nature and environmental education than the lakes and cycling track at Parque do Sabiá.

Public Transport

All public transport buses in Uberlândia have lifts and adapted interior layouts. If this equipment is important for your specific journey, check the current conditions in advance. This lets you take it into account when planning your trip, without implying anything about individual journeys or their conditions.
