Ibirité offers a range of reasons to visit: cultural festivals and traditions, the collection at the Museu Helena Antipoff, views of the surrounding mountain ranges and a self-guided hiking trail. If you are looking for a hotel, considering what interests you most can help you decide how to explore the area: would you like to learn about cultural traditions, experience the landscapes, or include both in your trip? The destinations below show different sides of Ibirité.

Culture in Ibirité

Cultural festivals such as Folia de Reis, Moçambique and Encontro de Bandas are preserved in Ibirité. As part of the 2023 ICMS cultural heritage inventory, Violas de Minas is registered in Ibirité as intangible cultural heritage. If you would like to plan your trip around one of these festivals or the Ibirité Gourmet Festival, check the announced dates in advance.

The Museu Helena Antipoff is also part of Ibirité’s cultural context. It preserves a significant archival, bibliographic and three-dimensional collection relating to the life and work of researcher Helena Antipoff. The museum is also associated with off-site exhibitions and talks about her life and work. The program may vary; check current dates if you would like to include one of these events in your plans. The cultural offerings therefore cover different themes: the festivals reflect preserved traditions, while the collection focuses on Helena Antipoff’s life and work.

Views and Trails

Mirante Três Pedras is located at an elevation of about 1,400 m and offers views of the municipalities of Belo Horizonte and Ibirité, the Estrada dos Sertões and the surrounding mountain ranges. In Parque Estadual da Serra do Rola-Moça, it is one of the most visited viewpoints. Visitors can also enjoy the sunset at Serra do Rola-Moça. If you are planning a visit to the park, check the current access conditions.

The self-guided Trilha do Cerrado in Parque Estadual da Serra do Rola-Moça starts at the park’s administrative headquarters and is 2.4 km long. The state park also extends into Ibirité. For planning your time in nature, you can choose between different highlights: the panorama from Mirante Três Pedras or a self-guided trail with a stated length. Guided activities may require advance booking; if you are planning one, confirm your booking in advance.

The park’s facilities also include the Plataforma de Observação Astronômica Professor Francisco Prado. Manancial Taboões is one of the park’s water sources and is especially frequently visited by schools. Educational visits may be subject to park procedures.

Local Cuisine

The Ibirité Gourmet Festival aims to offer visitors local cuisine. It adds a culinary focus to the cultural and landscape-related attractions. If you would like to plan your trip around the festival, check the announced event dates in advance.
