For planning a visit to Mundo Nuevo, two route details are particularly specific: the five-kilometre hiking trail between Mundo Nuevo and Villa Nougués, and the dimensions of the SS#1 Enduro special stage from 2023. Another reference point is the location of Parador Mundo Nuevo on Ruta 388.

Routes between Mundo Nuevo and Villa Nougués

The Mundo Nuevo–Villa Nougués route is a five-kilometre hiking trail and is also used by bicycles and Enduro motorcycles. A trail leads downhill from Villa Nougués to Mundo Nuevo, where the winding route begins. If you plan to hike or ride any of these routes, check current access conditions in advance.

At the 2023 San Javier Enduro event, Mundo Nuevo was designated as special stage SS#1. The stage was 4.2 kilometres long, with an elevation gain of 71 metres and an elevation loss of 875 metres. On the route at the time, participants cycled about 6.5 kilometres south from a point to the start of the special stage. The separate elevation figures show that the recorded descent was greater than the ascent.

Parador Mundo Nuevo is located at kilometre 47 of Ruta 388, in the direction of Villa Nougués, opposite Country La Arboleda. The kilometre marker and the direction along Ruta 388 are complemented by the landmark opposite.

Nature and culture in Departamento Lules

In Departamento Lules, the wider travel destination, Quebrada de Lules is a narrow valley surrounded by steep slopes. Reserva Natural de la Quebrada de Lules offers nature trails, areas to relax, and outdoor activities. The quebrada serves as a gathering place for families, tourists, and local residents, as well as a place to unwind and enjoy leisure time.

Historic sites also give Departamento Lules its distinctive character. The first public institutional school in the country was located at the ruins of San José de Lules. The Jesuits first cultivated sugar cane in Tucumán there; in 1814, General San Martín's army rested at the ruins.

The interpretive tour of the former Ingenio San Pablo in Lules includes the founders' family chalet, the Nuestra Señora del Carmen chapel, and a late-19th-century industrial-architecture factory with machinery and characteristically tall chimneys. The tour is easy and offers insight into the site's history. In Villa Nougués, the Stations of the Cross around Iglesia Sagrado Corazón de Jesús, a Neo-Gothic church, are part of a walking route. The Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes is another attraction in Villa Nougués.

Reserva San Pablo T, which is affiliated with Universidad San Pablo T, is located in Departamento Lules around Villa Nougués. A five-kilometre hike of moderate intensity leads to Cascada de Huaicondo. It takes just over an hour and passes through the heart of Tucumán's Yungas. Because of the considerable ascents and descents, the tourism authority recommends going with a guide or an authorized tour operator. Check current access and payment conditions before setting out.

Two five-kilometre distances refer to different destinations: the Mundo Nuevo–Villa Nougués route names both towns as endpoints, while the hike to Cascada de Huaicondo leads to the waterfall. This distinction helps you choose the right route information for your plans.
