Rosario is home to several cultural attractions; in the surrounding area, you’ll find beaches, river landscapes and other outdoor activities. You can decide which experiences you want to shape your stay.

Rosario: History, Art and Urban Spaces

The Monumento Nacional a la Bandera stands on the site where General Manuel Belgrano first raised the Argentine flag on February 27, 1812. The monument was inaugurated on June 20, 1957. Pasaje Juramento connects it with Plaza 25 de Mayo and the historic old town. Its tiered water basin is decorated with works by sculptor Lola Mora.

The city’s museums also reflect its former port architecture. The Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Rosario (MACRO) is housed in former grain silos by the river, which are part of the port architecture of the early 20th century and were originally used to store grain. The museum houses Argentina’s most significant collection of contemporary art. At the Museo de Arte Decorativo Firma y Odilo Estévez, you can see European paintings from the 17th to the 19th century, as well as Hispano-American silver, ivory, tapestries, rugs, glass, porcelain and sculptures. The house also preserves many treasures from Rosario’s oldest mansions.

The Museo de Bellas Artes Juan B. Castagnino displays a collection of Argentine art that is representative of the country’s art history across all disciplines, with a particular focus on artists from Rosario. The European works include four print series by Francisco de Goya: Los caprichos, Los disparates, Los desastres de la guerra and Tauromaquia. The Museo de la Memoria de Rosario offers a different historical perspective and is designated a “lugar histórico nacional.”

A guided visit to Teatro El CĂrculo includes the facilities, catacombs and the Julio Barnes Museum of Sacred Art. Check with the theater for current tour arrangements before your visit.

Beaches and Water on the Paraná

In the surrounding area, La Florida offers a sandy beach with 400 meters of frontage on the Río Paraná. The Rosario-Victoria Bridge and the green island delta provide the backdrop. Nearby Rambla Catalunya offers a different experience: it has a free beach with a kitesurfing area and a 400-meter swimming corridor, marked with two lines of safety buoys. These details make it easy to distinguish the different beach areas without implying that they offer the same things.

Next to the southern entrance of Balneario La Florida, excursions and beginner courses on the Paraná are available by kayak and stand-up paddleboard. Motorboat excursions of varying durations are also offered on the Paraná. They last about an hour and a half on average and can be combined with a stop at an island parador. Depending on the excursion, advance reservations and a minimum number of participants may be required.

The Acuario del río Paraná focuses on the biodiversity of the Paraná Delta. It includes a native plant park, a research center, ten large aquariums, interactive educational games and a bar with a terrace. The one-hour guided tours take visitors through the Laboratorio Mixto de Biotecnología Acuática, the Sala de Acuarios and the Jardín Botánico Autóctono. If you’re planning a visit, you can take both the center’s themes and the tour’s duration into account.

Nature and Activities in the Surrounding Area

Parque Regional Sur “Dr. Carlos Sylvestre Begnis” is a 35-hectare riverside area with diverse vegetation. Walks along Arroyo Saladillo and photography of the waterfall at Quebradas del Saladillo invite you to enjoy the natural surroundings. In the park’s southernmost area, there is also training equipment for cycling and athletics; check its condition on site before visiting.

There are also several ways to spend time outdoors in Rosario itself. During the day, you can ride pedal boats on the Laguito in Parque de la Independencia; current rental details may vary. A large square next to Parque de España is popular with many young people for roller skating, skateboarding and cycling. Parque de España is also considered one of the places that best express Rosario’s identity as a city open to the river.

In the surrounding area, Funes offers experiences related to cycling culture and ecological production. Carmen del Sauce is a rural locality in Rosario Department, in the province of Santa Fe.

Getting Around and Planning Your Trip

LĂnea de la Costa runs through central Rosario and serves both beaches and the northern piers. It operates on weekends and public holidays, stopping in front of the beaches. As service arrangements may change, check current transport information before setting out.

The Feria de las Colectividades is held annually in Parque a la Bandera. On June 20, DĂa de la Bandera, the park hosts a ceremony and a large parade. If one of these events is relevant to your trip, check the dates for your planned stay.

When choosing a hotel, you can first consider whether you want to focus on museums and historic sites in Rosario, spend time by the river or plan outdoor activities. The options mentioned differ clearly in focus: from art collections and architecture to beaches and water sports, walks and nature observation.
