Abramo brings together local history, railway heritage, historic buildings, a museum and a local festival tradition. An important point for planning your trip: Abramo has no overnight accommodations. Check before travelling to see whether this situation has changed.

Local History and the Railway

Abramo was founded on 27 March 1909. The town is named after Fernando Abramo, a campaign officer under General San Martín. Its founding was closely connected with the arrival of the railway and the construction of the line linking Hucal and Bahía Blanca. The tracks run through Abramo, dividing the town into an old and a new section. In this way, the town’s historical railway connection and its physical layout come together.

The Museo Histórico Nicolás Abdala has been open since 2011 and displays historical objects used by figures from Abramo’s past. The Iglesia San Martín de Tours was completed in 1937. The museum focuses on objects connected with people from the town’s past, while the church’s completion date places the building at a specific point in history.

The Ermita de la Virgen Madre is also part of the town’s history. It was built following a vote in 2000, with support from the community, and was later moved to the site now known as the Recreo Municipal. Its history therefore involves both a community decision and a subsequent change of location.

Culture and Tradition

The Fiesta de la Tradición takes place in November and features doma (traditional horse-breaking) and folklore. The 2019 edition included two days of jineteada (traditional horseback riding) and a folklore festival. If you are planning to travel specifically for the Fiesta, check the dates of the relevant edition before making your plans.

The Campo de Doma “El Portal del Sur” was established in Abramo through the initiative of local residents and with support from the municipality. The creation of this venue is also part of the local tradition: it grew out of the commitment of the community and municipal support.

Townscape and Recreation

At the entrance to Abramo is the Recreo Municipal, with a fitness trail and a walking path across an area of about three hectares. The walking path and fitness trail add a recreational dimension to the description of the town. The entrance to Abramo is a tree-lined boulevard about 500 metres long, providing another point of orientation.

Getting There and Transport

Abramo can be reached from National Route 35 via an access road described as fully paved. National Route 35 connects Abramo with Bernasconi and is described as paved and in good condition. Check current road conditions before driving.

An account from November 2023 mentions a minibus operated by the municipality that connected Abramo with Bernasconi three times a day. It departed from the Club Sportivo y Recreativo Abramo and served in particular the daily school commute for secondary-school students. If you need this service, check before travelling whether the bus is still running and what conditions apply to your journey.
