Cavalango Between River Landscapes and Culture
Accommodation in Cavalango
Cavalango brings together natural landscapes, cultural sites, and local traditions. When looking for a hotel for your trip, you can first consider which aspects matter most for your stay: river landscapes, historical and cultural connections, or festive traditions. You can plan your journey using a specific road route or the Fonobus bus connection. The wider destination of Departamento Punilla offers additional landscape and activity themes.
River Landscapes and Orientation
The RĂo Los Chorrillos runs through Cabalango, forming pools and natural diving boards between the rocks. On warm summer days, the Balneario Los Socavones natural swimming area offers visitors a place to cool off. The river is known for its rock pools and diving boards, while the natural swimming area is associated with cooling off in summer—two distinct features to consider when exploring the area’s waters. The Cascadas Las Hoyas complex is located in Cabalango, near the Arroyo Los Chorrillos, and is surrounded by natural landscapes. The visitor experience also includes the artisan promenade at Cabalango’s main bathing area.
Cultural Sites and Festive Traditions
The Iglesia San Cayetano in Cabalango is a rustic stone church founded in 1957 by Monseñor Castellano. The Morteros Chelko-Kamiare are described as ancestral sites of historical and cultural significance. These offer two distinct points of cultural interest: the church’s construction and founding year, and the classification of the Morteros as ancestral sites.
The patron saint celebrations in honor of Saint Cajetan include a procession, a gaucho parade, live music, traditional food, and handicrafts. Culinary traditions also feature among the local festivities: at the third edition of Cabalango al Disco on July 18, there were food stalls and dishes prepared on the disc.
Getting There and Guided Tour
From CĂłrdoba Capital, you can reach Cabalango via RN 20 and then the Autopista Justiniano Posse through Villa Carlos Paz. Cabalango is also served by the Fonobus bus company. If you plan to travel by bus, check the current schedule before setting off. The road route and bus connection provide two specific starting points for planning your journey.
A guided trekking tour on December 30 went from 3 Cascadas to Trompa del Elefante. Residents and visitors could take part and explore the trails there.
Departamento Punilla in the Wider Region
In Departamento Punilla, Cerro Uritorco, at 1,979 meters, is the highest point in northern Punilla. Quebrada del Condorito National Park is located partly in Departamento Punilla. The Quebrada is V-shaped, 800 meters high, and 1,500 meters wide at its widest point; Andean condors can be seen from its upper edges.
There are five major reservoirs in Punilla where visitors can fish; sailing and motorized water sports are also possible there. The Camino de los Artesanos connects Villa Giardino and La Cumbre over a distance of nine kilometers. While the reservoirs bring together fishing and water sports, the Camino offers a different regional highlight by linking two towns.
