Nono: Rivers, Hiking Trails and Culture
Accommodation in Nono
If you’re looking for a hotel in Nono, the area’s varied attractions can help you plan your trip: river landscapes, self-guided trails, a museum, crafts and events each appeal to different interests. The destinations below highlight the natural and cultural features that make Nono and its surroundings distinctive.
Rivers and Hiking Trails
The water at the RĂo de los Sauces is calm and warm, with broad beaches and shallow water. The RĂo Chico de Nono flows between large rocks and dense vegetation, creating natural swimming pools and small, quiet spots by the water. At Cerro Los Nonos, the RĂo de los Sauces and the RĂo Chico meet; together, they then flow as one river to Dique La Viña. The confluence is called La Juntura de los RĂos.
Two different easy routes are suitable for self-guided walks: the seven-kilometer Sendero de la Juntura runs from Plaza San MartĂn to the confluence. The Sendero del Arroyo is five kilometers long, and its entrance is 2.5 kilometers from the center of Nono. When planning the Sendero de la Juntura, bear in mind that river conditions can vary seasonally.
Near Nono, the Sendero Las Chuñas is a loop trail with views of the Altas Cumbres. Ancient mortars carved into the rock bear witness to the heritage of the Indigenous peoples of this area. The trail thus combines scenic views with evidence of regional history.
Culture, Crafts and Events
The Museo Rocsen opened in Nono in 1969. Located in the Department of San Alberto, it displays more than 55,000 items from around the world and recreates scenes from different eras. The collections and recreated scenes give the museum a distinctive cultural presence in Nono.
The Laberinto de Nono features six mazes, including a traditional 900-square-meter maze made of arborvitae. It also has skill and balance games, as well as a play area for younger children. It operates seasonally, so check visiting dates when planning your trip.
Nono’s craft fair has about 75 craft stalls and around 15 stalls selling regional products. Offerings include leather goods, textiles, painted ceramics, knives and woodwork. The number of stalls may vary from one edition to another.
The Fiesta de la TradiciĂłn Serrana in Nono lasts two days and features folk music, traditional foods, folk dances, a gaucho parade and an equestrian skills competition. Check the dates for the year of your trip.
PoesĂa Mural is a community initiative for public art in Nono. It brings together poets, visual artists, local residents and municipal authorities. The project thus combines different local voices in a public art initiative.
Historic Places in the Department of San Alberto
The “Casas con historia” walking tour in Nono includes traditional adobe houses, general stores and a chapel dating to 1908. Together with the Museo Rocsen, the tour showcases another cultural side of the Department of San Alberto: historic buildings in the townscape and a museum featuring objects from different parts of the world and different eras.
