Molinari lies in the Valle de Punilla between Cosquín and Casa Grande. Wildlife viewing at Parque Fitozoológico Tatú Carreta and panoramic views at Cascada de Olaén offer two distinct nature experiences. Road connections place the town within the valley; other cultural and scenic destinations are located in the Departamento Punilla.

Location and Road Connections

The Autovía de Punilla is a 16.7-kilometer road corridor connecting Comuna San Roque, Bialet Massé, Santa María de Punilla, Cosquín and Molinari. It opened in November 2024. A route into Molinari also runs via Autopista No. 20 and Provincial Roads No. 73 and E55 to National Route No. 38; along this approach, National Route No. 38 heads south. If you plan to use one of these road connections for your trip, check current road conditions in advance.

Wildlife Viewing and Nature Destinations

At Parque Fitozoológico Tatú Carreta, you can observe free-ranging animals in specialized vehicles, along purpose-built trails and on guided excursions. The park includes a condor nesting area, lagoons with capybaras and numerous birds, as well as a jaguar breeding station. A ride on a small train is also part of the experience. If a particular tour or train ride is important to your plans, check in advance whether it will be running when you visit.

Cascada de Olaén offers a different experience, inviting visitors to relax and enjoy panoramic views. In Molinari, wildlife viewing and taking in the scenery are therefore two distinct focuses for excursions.

Culture and Special Visiting Dates

Every year on December 4, the patronal festival of Capilla Santa Bárbara takes place on the Pampa de Olaén, near Molinari. The chapel was built between 1748 and 1756 and opens its doors only on this day. If you plan to visit around the festival, check the current opening arrangements before setting out.

Activities in the Departamento Punilla

In the Departamento Punilla, morning walks offer an opportunity for outdoor activities. Trekking provides a chance to explore the terrain and native flora and fauna. Visitors can go horseback riding along riverbanks, while mountain bike trails lead to waterfalls in the region. In summer, the waters invite visitors to swim at natural beaches. They flow through hilly terrain and have banks lined with dense trees.

Punilla has five major reservoirs where visitors can fish. Sailing and motorized water sports are also possible at the reservoirs. The regional offering therefore includes activities on rivers and lakes as well as trails through the landscape.

Landscape and Regional Landmarks

At 1,979 meters, Cerro Uritorco is the highest point in northern Punilla. Quebrada del Condorito is a V-shaped gorge, 800 meters high and 1,500 meters wide at its broadest point. Andean condors can be spotted from its upper rims; the national park is located partly in the Departamento Punilla. The Camino de los Artesanos connects Villa Giardino and La Cumbre along a nine-kilometer route.
