Las Rabonas: Forest, Water and Ceramics
Accommodation in Las Rabonas
Las Rabonas is framed by the Sierras Grandes and the shores of Dique La Viña. The mountain landscape and reservoir shape the town’s scenery. When planning your trip, you can consider nature trails, water and cultural highlights as separate areas of interest. Local highlights include Sendas de Piedra, with its forest and ceramics; the Sierras Embrujadas trail to cool pools; sailing on Dique La Viña; and the Valle Encantado water park.
Forest Trails and Ceramics at Sendas de Piedra
Sendas de Piedra is a seven-hectare ecological and artistic space with unspoiled forest. Its trails can be explored on foot. If you’d like to experience forest and craftsmanship together, this is the place: Sendas de Piedra has a ceramics workshop whose kiln is fired with wood and coal. There, visitors learn about the techniques and mystique of this ancient art. The forest provides the setting, while the workshop adds a focus on craftsmanship.
The Sierras Embrujadas trail offers a different experience: it is explored with an authorized guide and leads to cool pools where swimming is possible. The two trails therefore offer distinct experiences: trails you can explore on foot at Sendas de Piedra, and a route for which an authorized guide is required. The pools also give the Sierras Embrujadas trail a clear connection to swimming.
Water Experiences at Dique La Viña
Sailing is possible on Dique La Viña. Another water-related attraction in Las Rabonas is Valle Encantado, described as the town’s water park. Those interested in water-based activities therefore have different options: sailing on the dam and the Valle Encantado water park. The Sierras Embrujadas trail, meanwhile, leads to natural pools where swimming is possible. These options are different in nature and can be considered separately when planning your trip.
Culture and Trails in the San Alberto Department
The San Alberto Department also has cultural attractions in other towns. In Nono, the “Casas con historia” walking tour includes traditional adobe houses, general stores and a chapel dating from 1908. The Museo Rocsen displays more than 55,000 objects from around the world and recreates scenes from different eras. Nono therefore offers two distinct ways to experience culture: a tour featuring historic architecture and shops, and a museum with an extensive collection and recreated scenes from different periods.
Hiking trails in the San Alberto Department also vary in character. The Sendero del Arroyo follows the Arroyo Los Sanjuaninos for about five kilometers and can be hiked independently or with an authorized guide. The Sendero del Empedrado starts in the hamlet of Algarrobo and ends in the Altas Cumbres. It is eight kilometers long, and some sections are considered moderately difficult. In terms of distance, the trails are about five and eight kilometers long, respectively; the Sendero del Empedrado also has a stated difficulty level.
In Nono, Laberinto offers coordination and balance games, as well as a café with panoramic views. In Panaholma, the monument to the India Panaholma welcomes visitors, while the Nuestra Señora del Rosario Chapel shapes the town’s religious character. In San Lorenzo, visitors can take guided walks along nature and cultural trails and attend open folk-dance workshops. These examples are all in the San Alberto Department and expand on Las Rabonas by highlighting cultural and nature-related attractions explicitly located in other towns.
