Discover Monte: Nature, Art and Cycling Routes
Accommodation in Monte
In Monte, nature watching, water sports, cycling and culture offer different reasons to visit. The Fiesta de la Comida al Disco may also influence when you plan your stay. First, consider which focus matters most for your trip: Laguna de Monte and its wildlife, a bike ride or the annual festival. This will help you fit these different themes into your plans.
Sculpture on the southern shore of Laguna de Monte
Cristo de la Esperanza was installed on the southern shore of Laguna de Monte in April 2010 and is part of Monte’s cultural heritage. The artist and sculptor Pablo Bagnat carved the 2.10-metre-tall sculpture from ash wood using a chainsaw. The cross that accompanies it is 7 metres tall and made of quebracho wood. Its location, materials and dimensions connect the work directly to the lagoon and make it a distinct cultural feature of your stay.
Bird species and capybaras
Near the vegetation around Laguna de Monte and Arroyo Totoral, the species Garza Blanca, Garza NĂvea and Garza Mora can be found. Populations of capybaras also live in the Monte area, distributed across interconnected lagoons. The smallest population is in Laguna de Monte; this is attributed to the high level of human activity there. The bird species are found near particular vegetation, while the capybaras are distributed across several lagoons—two different perspectives on nature in Monte.
Water sports on the lagoon
Stand-up paddleboarding is available on Laguna de Monte through Monte Aventura. Kayak rental on the lagoon is associated with Onda Activa, Los Cisnes, Camping El Nautico and Monte Aventura. The two activities therefore also differ in which providers are associated with them. If water sports are part of your plans, check current operating details with the providers before you travel.
Monte–Berra rural cycling circuit
The Monte–Berra rural cycling circuit is 20 kilometres long, rated as low difficulty and estimated to take two hours. It runs from Parador Fotográfico Monte to Estación Francisco Berra FCPBA. The rural cycling offering as a whole includes circuits at all difficulty levels; the low difficulty rating applies to the Monte–Berra route. Its length and estimated duration give you concrete points of reference when fitting a bike ride into your day. Bicycle rental services in Monte are associated with Onda Activa, Camping El Nautico and MF Bikes. Check current operating details with the providers before your trip.
Fiesta de la Comida al Disco
The Fiesta de la Comida al Disco is scheduled annually in Partido de Monte for the period from 1 March to 30 April. In San Miguel del Monte, the event brings together more than 50 stalls serving various dishes prepared on plough discs. The offerings may vary from one edition to the next. If you are planning your trip around the Fiesta, check the specific event dates within this annual period.
Choose hotels based on your reason for travelling
If you are travelling for the Fiesta, its annual date range is an important planning guide; for the bike ride, its route and estimated duration can help you plan your day. Nature watching and water sports, in turn, call for different priorities.
