When looking for a hotel in Lobos, it helps to start with a simple question: Should your trip focus mainly on Laguna de Lobos and its landscape, on culture in the town, or on both? The lagoon, museums and historic architecture offer different points of reference for planning. Compare the information provided for each property when choosing a hotel.

Lagoon Landscape and Nature

Laguna de Lobos is a natural wetland covering 800 hectares. Its richly vegetated surroundings are home to a wide variety of wild birds that can be observed. Because of its salinity and water-level characteristics, the lagoon is included in the inventory of Latin American wetlands; these conditions provide habitat for great biodiversity.

Laguna de Lobos is suitable for watersports and other activities on the water. A 2018 event included activities such as sailing, kayaking, canoeing, rowing and kayak fishing. This was part of that event, not a calendar of events. The development of fishing is also part of the lagoon’s history: commercial fishing ceased in the early 1940s, and recreational fishing was introduced as an activity.

Museums and Culture in Lobos

The Museo y Biblioteca Juan Domingo Perón is housed in the former birthplace of General Juan Domingo Perón. He was born there on October 8, 1895. The museum site includes four rooms, a plaque courtyard and a historic fig tree dating from 1890. The museum is designated a Provincial and National Historic Monument. Its collection includes Perón’s furniture and personal belongings, as well as books by him and by people who contributed to his education.

The Museo Histórico y de Ciencias Naturales “Pago de los Lobos” brings together regional history and natural history. Its natural history collections include fossils, taxidermied native and non-native animals, mollusks, fish and fossilized flora. Documents, tools, and liturgical and educational objects are also connected with the values, customs and traditions of the town of Lobos.

The performing arts and events are also part of the city’s cultural offerings. The Cine Teatro Italiano in Lobos presents Argentine and commercial films, commercial plays and productions featuring local actors, as well as exhibitions, conferences, orchestras, ballets, concerts and operas. Architecture and Historic Sites

Several buildings in Lobos showcase different architectural styles. The Palacio Municipal is designed in the Art Deco style. The Club Social Lobense is also Art Deco; it was formerly called Sociedad Orfeón Lobense. The Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen is Neo-Gothic. Its current appearance dates from a major renovation that included, among other additions, a 37-meter-high side tower.

Plaza 1810 is designated a National Historic Site. Together with the historic buildings and museums, it complements the trip’s nature-related attractions with places and collections connected to the history of Lobos.
