In Gonnet, the República de los Niños brings together an idea of civic education with cultural, historical, and scientific themes.

Education and Science at the República de los Niños

The República de los Niños was designed as a place of civic education for children and young people, with a playful, recreational character. This combination of education and leisure shapes the idea behind the site. Mundo Nuevo’s location for activities with the public is also at the República de los Niños: Camino Gral. Belgrano y 501, Manuel B. Gonnet, La Plata, Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Mundo Nuevo offers multidisciplinary science outreach activities in physics, history, communication, sociology, biology, literature, music, and theater. Physics and biology sit alongside social topics and artistic forms of expression. This wide range of disciplines gives you a concrete point of reference when considering which subjects you want your trip to focus on.

Sensorium is an art-and-science experience accessible to people with visual impairments. A university announcement dated July 14, 2026, placed it on the program for that year’s winter break. This timing refers to the program mentioned; if Sensorium is relevant to your trip, check for current announcements.

Puppet Collection and Local History

The Museo Internacional del Muñeco is located in the Palacio de las Culturas at the República de los Niños in Gonnet. Its collection includes more than 2,500 dolls, figures, hand puppets, and marionettes representing around 40 countries worldwide. The combination of different types of figures and the international focus give the museum a distinctive profile among the cultural attractions in the area.

The Jorge H. Lima Historical Archive is also part of the República de los Niños. It is named after Jorge H. Lima, who carried out the project and its technical direction together with architect Alberto Cuenca. This connects the archive’s name to the project’s history without identifying Jorge H. Lima himself as an architect.

La Plata as a Broader Travel Destination

In the broader destination of La Plata, the founding plan offers a distinctive way to understand the city layout: it connects 20 differently designed squares with eleven avenues running perpendicular to one another. The Catedral de La Plata offers further points of interest for a city walk. Its church is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.; admission is free. Check opening hours again before your trip. The Catedral’s observation point is about 70 meters above ground and offers panoramic views of the city and its surroundings.

The city walking route through Paseo del Bosque includes the lake, its landing, and the boats; the Planetarium is also part of the route. The guided tour of the Meridiano V neighborhood focuses on a different theme: it explores railway history and heritage, as well as the neighborhood’s development into a cultural space. The starting point is the provincial railway station at the intersection of streets 17 and 71.

The museums in La Plata also offer a variety of perspectives. The Museo y Archivo Dardo Rocha preserves Dardo Rocha’s collection and historic house; it also plans educational activities for school students. The Museo Del Ladrillo in Ringuelet, Partido de La Plata, presents the social, cultural, and technological heritage of brickmaking and its importance to La Plata’s beginnings. The city’s broader themes thus range from urban planning and railway history to brickmaking.
