Producers’ Fair and Event Venues
The Paseo de Productores de Abasto is a monthly, self-managed local fair featuring small-scale producers and entrepreneurs from the town. It was initially held at Plaza Itatí, at the intersection of streets 522 and 211. By 2019, the venue had moved to Club Atlético Abastense; since then, the fair has been held at various locations in Abasto. If you are planning a visit, check the current date and venue in advance.
Culture and Event History
El Mundo del Filete showcased works by filete artist Alejandro Pereira and was included in guided tours of Abasto. Filete art is therefore one of the cultural themes through which visitors can explore the town’s history.
A specific example of a past celebration is the “Fiesta Patria en Abasto”: held on May 25, 2022, at Plaza Virgen de Itatí, at the intersection of streets 211 and 522, it celebrated the town’s 131st anniversary. The program at the time included a chocolate event and games for children. This dated event offers a glimpse of the celebrations on that day.
Agricultural Experiences
In 2014, a tourist recreation trail began in Abasto, in the peri-urban area of La Plata. Tourists and consumers could visit vegetable and flower-growing farms. This theme leads from the town’s event culture to its agricultural character.
A report from December 2023 described how the Asociación Tierra Fértil Abastense opened its agroecological farm to the community so visitors could learn about its production methods. The farm was located in Abasto on street 212, between streets 506 and 509. In the wider La Plata region, the Recorridas also include guided visits to productive market gardens. If you are planning such a visit, check in advance whether one is being offered.
