Gaucho Traditions and Regional Art

The Fiesta Nacional del Gaucho has been held in General Juan Madariaga every December since 1972. It celebrates the traditions and customs of the Tuyú region. If the festival is a key part of your trip, check the event dates before booking.

Taller Del Sol - Espacio De Arte offers a different cultural perspective: it houses works by Wifredo Viladrich and other artists from the region. The festival and the Taller have different focuses—regional customs on the one hand, and works by regional artists on the other.

In the Broader Destination of General Juan Madariaga

Reserva Natural Provincial Laguna Salada Grande is located in the Talares de Madariaga, on the shore of Laguna La Salada Grande, and forms part of the La Salada wetland complex. This complex covers about 600 km² of fields and lagoons. The protected area preserves a section of the original landscape of Pagos del Tuyú and protects the native Espinal. It also provides an important setting for birdwatching and ecotourism.

The historic Puesto La Invernada is located on Ruta 74 at kilometer 5.5. As a former outpost of Estancia Juancho Viejo, it offers a glimpse into the region’s rural past. Paid sulky rides and horseback rides are available there Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; advance reservations are required. Check current availability before travelling.

The Sendero Talares de Lomada is also located on the municipal grounds of Puesto La Invernada. You can walk the trail accompanied by a park ranger. Along the way, you can observe natural processes, history and the ecological role of each species. The trail therefore focuses on natural connections and history, while the rides at the same site offer a different way to experience the rural region.

Recorridos Rurales follow scenic country roads to various places in the Partido de General Madariaga, including shops, bars, railway stations and lagoons. The routes offer insights into rural culture and complement the region’s nature and cultural attractions with destinations beyond the city.
