Predgorny District offers two distinct themes: Cossack culture in the stanitsa of Borgustanskaya and air sports in Yutsa. Other attractions include a women’s monastery on Mount Dubrovka, annual potato festivals, and thermal springs in the stanitsa of Suvorovskaya. The places and activities offer different focal points for planning your trip.

Cossack Culture in Borgustanskaya

The Cossack homestead in the stanitsa of Borgustanskaya introduces visitors and guests of the Caucasian Mineral Waters to traditional Cossack culture, ways of life, and customs through an exhibition. In addition to the exhibition, the homestead offers theatrical programs with the folk group “Volnaya Kazachka.” These include “Kazachya Yarmarka,” “Starinnye Posidelki,” “Vstrecha Kazakov iz Pokhoda,” and “Posvyashchenie v Pripisnye Kazaki.” The programs present Cossack customs, ways of life, music, and culture.

Another activity is the pottery workshop, where visitors can try traditional Cossack crafts under guidance. For current visitor arrangements and programs, it is advisable to contact the provider in advance. Potato festivals are also held annually in the stanitsa. If you would like to include a festival in your travel plans, check the dates and program in advance.

Air Sports, Monastery, and Thermal Springs

Yutsa is considered Russia’s best-known and most visited hang-gliding site, as well as the “cradle” of Russian paragliding. The village is also home to an operating ultralight aviation sports center. Together, these details make Yutsa both a place with a special role in Russian paragliding and the site of an air sports center. Ask about currently available activities before visiting.

The women’s monastery “Svyato-Georgievsky Zhensky Monastyr” stands on Mount Dubrovka and welcomes Orthodox pilgrims. If you are considering a visit, check the current visitor arrangements in advance. Another geographical point of interest in the district is the “Suvorovsky No. 1” thermal springs in the stanitsa of Suvorovskaya.

Another Cossack Homestead in Sadovoye

The “Shar-ptitsa” Cossack homestead in Sadovoye offers a different experience from the homestead in Borgustanskaya. Entertainment programs are available for adults, while excursions are aimed at school groups. The program also includes puzzle games, Cossack games, and tea ceremonies with local dishes. The cultural options in Predgorny District therefore include exhibitions, folklore, and crafts in Borgustanskaya, as well as games and tea ceremonies in Sadovoye. When planning activities on site, it is advisable to ask about current arrangements.

More Places to Explore in the Wider Stavropol Region

The wider destination of the Stavropol Region also offers its own cultural and landscape highlights. In Kislovodsk, the Narzan Gallery is located in the city center, at the entrance to the spa park. It is a 19th-century architectural monument and a cultural heritage site of federal significance. Visitors are offered three varieties of Narzan to taste there: regular Narzan, dolomite Narzan, and sulfate Narzan. If you are planning to sample them, check the current visitor conditions.

Also in Kislovodsk, Lermontov Rock lies on the southern outskirts of the city, in the Olkhovka Gorge near the settlement of Narzanny. Since 1961, it has been a natural monument of regional significance and part of the State Mikhail Lermontov Museum-Reserve. In Pyatigorsk, Mount Mashuk is located almost in the city center; at its western foot, Mikhail Lermontov and Nikolai Martynov fought a duel in 1841. The first monument in Russia to Lermontov was also unveiled in Pyatigorsk in 1889. These places provide further insight into the Stavropol Region without replacing the distinct attractions of Predgorny District.
