A stone church dating from 1779 and a seasonal nature trail reveal two different sides of Konstantinovo in Rybnovsky District. The district also includes the St. John the Theologian Monastery in Poshchupovo, museums in Konstantinovo and Novosyolki, and the annual military history festival “Battle of the Vozha.” For your trip planning, you can organize these destinations by religious history, museum visits, nature themes and event dates.

Churches and Monastery in Konstantinovo and Poshchupovo

The stone Church of the Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan in Konstantinovo was built in 1779 to a design by architect I. E. Starov. Its side altar is dedicated to the martyrs Vera, Nadezhda and Lyubov, and their mother Sofia. The church has been a parish church since January 2004, and services are held there regularly. If you are visiting for a service, confirm the current arrangements locally in advance.

The St. John the Theologian Monastery in Poshchupovo stands on the right bank of the Oka, near the village of Poshchupovo. Its Cathedral of St. John the Theologian is the monastery’s main church and was built in 1689. The dates 1689 and 1779 highlight the difference in the histories of the two buildings: the monastery cathedral was built earlier, and the church in Konstantinovo later.

Nature and Literary History in Konstantinovo

The “Konstantinovskoye Podgorye” nature trail is open to visitors from May to October. The route explores place names from the poet’s home region, the local flora and fauna, and the area’s historical use. This makes local history, nature and landscape history the focus of the same trail. As access is seasonal, check the latest visitor information before your trip.

The museums in Konstantinovo also each have their own focus. The Museum of the Poem “Anna Snegina” is located at the estate of L. I. Kashina; its exhibition covers the lives of the Kashin family and their guests. The museum-reserve’s exhibitions also include S. A. Yesenin’s parental estate. For current visiting arrangements at the poem museum, contact the museum for details.

Exhibitions and Trip Planning

The Pirogov Brothers House Museum in Novosyolki has three exhibition rooms. One of them illustrates peasant daily life from the late 19th to the early 20th century. The second room displays documents and items belonging to famous singers. The rooms described offer different perspectives: one focuses on everyday life, the other on singers and objects associated with them.

The military history festival “Battle of the Vozha” has been held annually in Glebovo-Gorodishche since 2003. Dates vary, so check the specific festival dates if you want to plan your trip around it. For a broader tour of Rybnovsky District, there is a 169-kilometer self-guided route. The estimated driving time, without stops, is four hours. Allow extra time for sightseeing, as stops are not included in this estimate.
