A tea experience at the Ragozina Estate

At the Ragozina Estate in the village of Petrovo-Gorodishche, “Petrovskoye Chai” is offered year-round as a tasting experience. Themed tea blends refer to historical periods of the estate; they are accompanied by Petrovsky printed gingerbread, jam made from family recipes, and apples and seasonal berries from the estate’s orchard. The tasting thus brings together historical associations, recipes, and produce from the estate.

The tea gatherings are intended for guests of all ages and take place in the warm lounge at Petrovskie Dachi or on open verandas. In summer, tea is served on an open terrace overlooking the Nerl or in the shade of linden and birch trees in the estate park. In winter, the experience includes hot tea, jam, printed gingerbread, and conversation by the fireplace in the warm lounge of the Petrovskie Dachi Eco-Hotel. This sets summer outdoor spaces apart from a winter gathering by the fire.

The village of Borodino is also home to the ensemble of the Church in Honor of the Archangel Michael. The church ensemble and the tea experience at the Ragozina Estate offer distinct cultural highlights in Gavrilovo-Posadsky District. If you are interested in sacred architectural ensembles, Borodino is another place to consider.

Culture and nature in Ivanovo Oblast

In Ivanovo Oblast, Palekh and Kholuy offer their own highlights in crafts and collections. At the Museum of Lacquer Miniatures in Palekh, visitors can paint a small papier-mâché object featuring the Firebird, a symbol of Palekh, in a workshop; check the current workshop schedule in advance. At the “BAKANOVA 46” gallery, visitors can try making their own object in the authentic Palekh style. An icon collection assembled in Palekh includes icons from the 14th to the 19th centuries; their places of origin range from Novgorod to the Urals and from the Volga region to the Russian North.

The Kholuy State Museum of Art has more than 5,000 exhibits and a regularly updated exhibition. In workshops, visitors can paint a brooch, an Easter egg, or a phone holder; check current availability in advance. The Kholuy Embroidery and Sewing Artel offers a different perspective on the local craft tradition: it is reviving the tradition of old embroidery crafts, and its work is made entirely by hand. The museum collections, painting workshops, and hand-embroidered work represent different ways to engage with crafts.

Plyos brings landscape and culture together in its own way. The small Volga town is known for its natural beauty and unhurried pace, which have long attracted artists. The eco-park has paths for walking and Nordic walking. One of the town’s highest points is called Gora Levitan and is named after the artist Levitan.

In Shuya, architecture offers a different highlight: the freestanding bell tower of the Resurrection Cathedral is 106 meters tall from its base to the top of the spire and is considered the tallest freestanding bell tower in Europe. Every January, the “Russkoe Rozhdestvo” festival brings a festive atmosphere to the old town. Across Ivanovo Oblast, outdoor trails, crafts, a landmark building, and a recurring winter festival offer a range of interests for travelers.
