Accommodation in Miguas
When looking for a hotel in Miguas, it is worth first deciding what you would like to focus on during your stay. Cultural history, landscape and food culture offer different perspectives; chapels, figures for the area of Quinta de Guimarães and a past food event provide specific points of reference.
Chapels and archaeological remains
The official 2025 heritage list includes the Capela de Nossa Senhora da Conceição de Guimarães in Santa Marinha do Zêzere as a chapel. At Quinta de Guimarães, it is considered Baroque; it is said to have been built in the first half of the 18th century. Traces of a Luso-Roman necropolis were also found on the Quinta. A necropolis is a burial ground; its Luso-Roman traces provide an archaeological point of reference alongside the chapel’s architectural history. The chapel and the necropolis traces on the Quinta point to two historical periods: the 18th century and the Luso-Roman era.
The former primary school building in Miguas offers a different perspective on architectural history. Part of the building was converted into a chapel dedicated to Santo Cura D’Ars. This comparison takes us from a chapel classified by style and construction date to a former school building that acquired a religious use through its conversion.
Quinta de Guimarães: land use and area
Quinta de Guimarães is used for agricultural production and rural tourism. The estate comprises 6 hectares of woodland and 25 hectares of vineyards. The two areas cited add up to 31 hectares; the vineyards are therefore just over four times the size of the woodland. This comparison illustrates the agricultural side of the estate and distinguishes it from the cultural-historical perspective of the chapel and necropolis. The uses and area figures thus provide two different points of reference: what the estate is used for and the relative sizes of its woodland and vineyards.
Food culture and goods for sale
A shop selling handmade goods and food products is listed in Miguas at Rua Caminho da Fonte in Santa Marinha do Zêzere, Baião. Another culinary point of reference is the Noite das Papas hosted by Águias Futebol Clube de Míguas. Announced in January 2025, the third edition continued a series of previous events and took place at the club’s premises. Its menu featured traditional Papas, Bola de carne à moda antiga and Carne em vinha d’alhos. Alongside the Papas named in the event title, that edition’s menu therefore included two other expressly named dishes.
What to focus on when looking for a hotel
The Noite das Papas adds a culinary occasion to these perspectives, brought to life by a past edition and its menu. Unlike the estate’s current use, the dishes relate to a specific edition of the event.
