Galé: Sandy Beaches, Cliffs and Coastal Walks

Galé-Leste has golden sand and lies at the eastern end of a wide sandy bay. Rock formations rise from the sand, creating small coves, sheltered spots and places for bathers to take cover. Praia da Galé – Oeste offers a different beachscape: a wide, continuous stretch of sand. On 23 July and 17 September 2023, the light interpretive programme “Testemunhos das variações ao nível do mar em Albufeira” took place. It covered five kilometres between Praia do Castelo and Praia da Galé and lasted three hours. Its route and duration make this programme a clearly defined example; walks along the cliffs offer another perspective on the coastal landscape.

Water sports and triathlon

There are many opportunities for water sports at Praia da Galé. Individual offerings may vary seasonally. In 2022, Praia da Galé hosted at least the eighth edition of the “Triatlo de Albufeira.” The competition comprises swimming, cycling and running. Alongside the water sports opportunities, this provides a named competition format and its three disciplines as distinct ways to enjoy the coast.
