Stuchowo brings together a palace and park complex with other historic traces in the town. If you are looking for a hotel for your stay and would also like to focus on culture, the town’s history offers several specific points of interest: architecture, parkland, estate buildings, and traces of cemeteries and a castle. The periods represented range from a medieval castle to buildings from the 20th century. When planning your trip, it helps to consider each place in terms of its own historical period and theme, rather than reducing Stuchowo’s history to a single period of construction.

Palace and Park on the Western Edge of Town

The palace and park complex lies on the western edge of Stuchowo. Built around 1888, the palace is designed in the Neo-Renaissance style and features Neo-Baroque elements. The terms refer to different historical stylistic models: Neo-Renaissance draws on Renaissance forms, while Neo-Baroque takes inspiration from Baroque design. These influences come together in the palace, giving it a style that reflects several influences. Surviving interior features include fireplaces, tiled stoves, and stucco on the walls and ceiling. This allows you to consider the interior both through its individual features and through the design of its wall and ceiling surfaces.

Part of the palace is now used as a primary school. If you are planning a visit to the interior, check in advance whether a visit is possible. The current use of part of the palace as a school adds a contemporary function to its historical interest.

The park features old purple beech trees, firs, hickory trees, plane trees, and yews—a mix of deciduous and coniferous trees that creates a distinct landscape focus alongside the architecture. The park also contains the gravestone of a former owner of the palace. Different tree species and a specific place of remembrance thus stand side by side.

The Estate and Its Building Periods

Another historic point of interest is the estate complex in Stuchowo. It dates from the 18th century; its buildings date from the 19th and 20th centuries. The complex includes a watermill built in 1888 and a distillery from the last quarter of the 19th century. These dates refer to two different levels: the 18th century applies to the complex, while the later dates apply to individual buildings. Of the two buildings, the watermill is dated to a specific year, while the distillery is dated to a period. This comparison helps distinguish the age of the complex as a whole from the periods of individual buildings, rather than assigning every part to the same period of construction.

Traces of Cemeteries and a Castle

Stuchowo is also home to a family cemetery dating from the early 19th century and a churchyard dating from the 18th or 19th century. The family cemetery is more precisely dated to the early 19th century, while the churchyard’s dating spans two centuries. The medieval castle adds an earlier period to these sites: its ruins were still visible in the early 20th century. If you would like to visit historic sites, check in advance whether visits are possible at each location.
