Międzyzdroje, known in German as Misdroy, offers a range of themes to consider when planning your trip: a visitor tradition at the pier, cultural history with clearly defined dates, and a hiking trail with named waypoints. The Oceanarium is also located in Międzyzdroje. If you are looking for a hotel, you can consider whether you would prefer to combine your stay with local history, the route described here, or wildlife watching.

Pier and cultural history

As part of a visitor tradition at the pier, couples in love hang padlocks on the railing as a memento of their stay and a symbol of their love. So, alongside its name, the pier is also associated with a specific, personal gesture.

In 1860, the Belgian merchant Arnoldt Lejune built the spa house and laid out the spa park at its foot. Today, the spa house is the building known as “Międzynarodowy Dom Kultury.” Another point of reference in time is November 2005: that was when the handprints were moved under the supervision of Professor Adam Myjak to the new Aleja Gwiazd on the recreational square at ul. Promenada Gwiazd in Międzyzdroje. The two dates mark different events: 1860 refers to the construction of the spa house and the creation of the park, while 2005 refers to the relocation of the handprints.

The cultural sites also represent different forms: the spa house is connected with the creation of the spa park, the handprints with a dated relocation, and Park Rzeźb with a competition. This makes it possible to distinguish between building history, relocation, and sculptures.

Eight sculptures were created as part of a competition in the town’s urban environment at the time; four of them can be seen in Park Rzeźb. Plac Gwiazd has a relaxation area with comfortable loungers and benches. These details distinguish the locations: Park Rzeźb is home to some of the competition sculptures, while Plac Gwiazd has loungers and benches in its relaxation area.

Hiking trail and wildlife watching

The black hiking trail runs from Międzyzdroje via Kawcza Góra and the “Kwasowo” parking lot, and joins the green hiking trail near the Zagroda Pokazowa Żubrów. Kawcza Góra and “Kwasowo” are points along the black trail; the junction with the green trail is near the enclosure. This distinction helps you tell the route’s course apart from the location of the junction. Check local trail updates before setting out.

At the Woliński Park’s bison demonstration enclosure, visitors can see European bison, deer, wild boar, and roe deer; the animals present may vary. White-tailed eagles can be found in a nearby aviary. When observing wildlife, it is important to distinguish between the enclosure and the aviary: the four animal species mentioned are at the bison demonstration enclosure, while the eagles are in the nearby aviary. This makes clear which location is associated with each group of animals.

The practical notes concern different matters: local trail updates are relevant before setting out, while the possible variation refers to the animals present at the bison demonstration enclosure.
