Dwikozy combines literary and cultural-historical connections with an annual tradition of its own. The town’s history with the writer Wiesław Myśliwski, churches with distinct architectural styles, and the Puławiaków March all shape its character. Other points of interest include a literary tour through the region and the nearby Panieńska Góra Nature Reserve. These themes offer different ways to explore Dwikozy as a travel destination.

Wiesław Myśliwski and the Literary Connections

Wiesław Myśliwski grew up in Dwikozy, in the home of his grandfather, Józef Gałęza. As a child, he often returned there and listened to stories told by older residents. He later incorporated these stories into his novels, often using the local dialect. His connection to Dwikozy is therefore rooted both in his family history and in the stories and language of the place. For literature enthusiasts, this offers a concrete biographical perspective: it is not only the writer’s name that is connected with Dwikozy, but also the experiences and voices that became part of his work. Myśliwski’s parents are also buried in the local cemetery in Dwikozy. This adds a family dimension to the literary connection.

Another literary perspective is offered by the Świętokrzyski Literary Trail, which passes through Dwikozy. The literary tour follows the footsteps of writers and literary characters through the region. This offers a different perspective from Myśliwski’s personal history in the town: his biography leads to his grandfather’s home and the stories told by older residents, while the route offers a regional view of literature.

Churches in Dwikozy and Góry Wysokie

In Dwikozy stands the parish church of St. Andrew Bobola and St. Anthony the Hermit. This modern brick building features Romanesque influences, bringing modern construction together with references to older forms. The church of St. Vitus and Our Lady of Sorrows in Góry Wysokie offers a different architectural perspective. It is late Baroque and is considered the most outstanding monument of sacred architecture in Dwikozy Municipality. Góry Wysokie is within the municipality but outside the town of Dwikozy. This distinction is useful for orientation: the modern brick church is in Dwikozy, while the late Baroque church is in Góry Wysokie.

The Puławiaków March in Early February

The Puławiaków March takes place every year in early February. It starts in Słupcza and leads to the cemetery in Góry Wysokie, where 28 students from Puławy who fell in battle are buried. The march then continues to the monument to the January Uprising insurgents in Dwikozy. It thus connects three places and ends at the monument in Dwikozy. The march adds a clear seasonal consideration to travel planning; the literary and architectural themes are not tied to this date. If you are considering a visit in February, check the date and this year’s program in advance.

The Landscape

The Panieńska Góra Nature Reserve, with its steppe vegetation, is located near Dwikozy. This adds a distinct landscape dimension to the area’s literary, architectural, and historical attractions. If you are considering nature as part of your trip, the steppe vegetation offers another point to consider when assessing the destination.
