Ćmielów brings together several distinct attractions: the Church of the Assumption of Mary, porcelain and the castle. When looking for a hotel in Ćmielów, these themes can help you match the destination to your own travel interests. Sacred architecture, porcelain making and the history of the castle each offer a different focus and provide concrete starting points for planning a stay.

Church of the Assumption of Mary

The Church of the Assumption of Mary was already in existence in the 14th century. It is a single-nave Gothic stone church with a narrower, rectangular chancel. The complex includes a tall bell tower with five bells; the oldest bears a Gothic inscription dated 1528. The inscription provides its own point of reference in time: it dates from later than the church, which was already in existence in the 14th century.

The church interior also contains an image of Our Lady of Consolation, venerated for its graces, a stone Baroque baptismal font from the first half of the 18th century and a Rococo pulpit. The furnishings bring together different functions and styles: a venerated image of Mary, a baptismal font and a pulpit stand alongside the Gothic architecture. The building’s design, bell tower and individual furnishings can thus be viewed as different aspects of the church complex.

Porcelain in the Museum and Townscape

The Żywe Muzeum Porcelany focuses on the making of porcelain. During a guided tour, visitors enter specially equipped workshops. At several stations, a guide demonstrates the production steps using a porcelain figurine shaped like a kitten as an example. This specific object connects the different stations through one continuous example.

Visitors can also enter an old, original porcelain kiln that is no longer in operation. There, a guide explains how the kiln was once used to fire porcelain. The workshops show the production steps; the kiln conveys its former function. A visit to the museum therefore presents the subject of porcelain both through a demonstration of the work and through a historic kiln that is no longer in operation.

Ćmielów porcelain also features in different ways in the townscape. The benches and fountain at Porcelanowy Rynek were designed after the well-known Empire collection. The designs for the bronze sculptures in Aleja Małp, in turn, were inspired by the “Piękne Małpy Europy” collection.

For directions to the Żywe Muzeum Porcelany: the museum is right on the main road, numerous signs point the way, and there is a spacious visitor car park at the museum. The road, signage and car park are concrete points of reference for planning a museum visit.

Ćmielów Castle

Zamek Ćmielów offers audio guides for self-guided tours exploring the castle’s history and architecture. Unlike the tour of the porcelain workshops, the audio-guided tour is intended for individual visitors. A valid admission ticket, invitation or voucher is required for entry.
