Ruda Maleniecka: Trails and Royal Carp
Accommodation in Ruda Maleniecka
Ruda Maleniecka can be explored through its local trails and a history of fish farming. A red hiking trail, a dendrological educational trail, and connections to the Royal Carp offer different points of interest. There are also other routes at the municipal level: three marked Nordic walking routes and one route suitable for cycling tourism. When planning your trip, it is worth considering these options according to their respective purpose and location.
Hiking trail and dendrological educational trail
A red hiking trail to the Diabla Góra Nature Reserve passes through Ruda Maleniecka. This identifies both the route’s destination and its path through the town. If you are interested in this hiking trail, you can include it in your travel plans as a specific link between Ruda Maleniecka and the nature reserve.
The dendrological educational trail focuses on a different subject. It runs within the historic manor park in Ruda Maleniecka and passes native tree species as well as non-native tree species, including the eastern white pine. Its focus is therefore on different types of trees. The trail was created by the Ruda Maleniecka Forest District in cooperation with a local 4H Club. Its location in the historic manor park and its botanical subject provide two clear points of reference: the place and the trees visitors can learn about there.
Routes in the municipality
There are three marked Nordic walking routes of varying lengths and difficulty in the municipality of Ruda Maleniecka. They are grouped together in the Nordic Walking Park LGD - U Źródeł. Differences in length and difficulty provide practical criteria for comparing the routes. The red and black routes share a section with the Piekielny Szlak within the municipality. This refers to the section they have in common, not to the full course of the routes.
A route for cycling tourism is also described. It passes through Machory, Maleniec, Koliszowy, Dęba, and Strzęboszów. Unlike the Nordic walking routes, the focus here is on the places named along the route; it is important to note that this is a route at the municipal level. This makes it possible to distinguish between the options by activity: marked Nordic walking routes with information about length and difficulty, or a route suitable for cycling tourism that passes through several places in the municipality.
Royal Carp and fish farming
The Royal Carp monument in Ruda Maleniecka was erected in 2012 to mark the centenary of the opening of the Fisheries Experimental Station. The year the monument was created is therefore linked to the history of the station. Research at the Fisheries Experimental Station in Ruda Maleniecka led to the breeding of a Royal Carp variety with few scales. The monument and the research point to two different aspects of this history: commemorating the anniversary and the results of the breeding work.
Another local connection to fish farming is the educational trail at Izba Tradycji im. Profesora Franciszka Staffa, Ruda Maleniecka 112. It runs through a fish farm site around the breeding ponds. This trail therefore has a different specific focus from the dendrological educational trail in the manor park: here, fish farming and ponds define the setting, while tree species are the main focus there. Together with the Royal Carp monument, this offers a local theme to explore through both a historical connection and the trails described here.
