Wołkowyja connects Lake Solina with paths around and through the village, as well as a historic church. Three specific local features help put the destination in context: the Zielona plaża bathing area, the marked walking paths and green PTTK hiking trail, and the building history of the present-day church. Together, they showcase the landscape, outdoor activity, and local history. For your stay, you can consider these themes separately: a particular spot by the water, paths in the surrounding area, and the village’s historical development.

Location by the lake and in the landscape

Wołkowyja lies on Lake Solina and also in a picturesque valley at the foot of the scenic peak of Plisz. The lake, valley, and peak are distinct geographic reference points for the village. The Zielona plaża bathing area places it specifically by the lake, in a bay; Plisz is the named peak above the valley. The valley and peak therefore add a second spatial perspective to the description of Wołkowyja by the water.

The Zielona plaża bathing area

The Zielona plaża bathing area is in Wołkowyja on Lake Solina, in a bay. Its facilities include a shelter for relaxing and benches, two toilet cubicles, and waste bins. There is a free, unattended car park for visitors arriving by car. The bathing area also has outdoor fitness equipment or an outdoor fitness facility. The amenities thus range from seating and sanitary facilities to parking and outdoor exercise.

Walking paths and the PTTK hiking trail

Around 18 km of walking paths have been designated and marked around Wołkowyja, with signs installed along them. These measures are part of the municipal renewal program for 2017–2020. Separate from these paths is the green PTTK hiking trail, which passes through Wołkowyja. The route listed runs through Lesko, Zwierzyń, Myczkowce, Wołkowyja, Bukowiec, Terka, and Jaworzec. The approximately 18 km refers to the designated paths around the village, while the list of places describes the PTTK route through several stops. These are two different points of reference: the approximate extent of local walking paths and a specific sequence of places on a hiking route. An information board and a decorative post have also been installed at a crossroads near the Ranczo center. Since the signs were installed as part of a program running from 2017 to 2020, it is worth checking their current location on site.

The history of the church

The history of the church predates the present building: Wołkowyja already had its first church in 1728. Construction of the present-day church began in 1973. On September 23, 1975, Bishop Ignacy Tokarczuk consecrated it under the patronage of Saint Maximilian Kolbe. The dates mark different milestones: 1728 refers to the first church, 1973 to the start of construction of the present-day building, and 1975 to its consecration. This distinguishes the earlier church chronologically from the construction history of the current building.
