Tylawa offers two specific starting points for planning your trip: hiking trails with different distance details and the nearby Museum of Lemko Culture in Zyndranowa. Some routes lead away from Tylawa, while others pass through the village; their details help you distinguish tours by route and length. If you are looking for a hotel for a stay in Tylawa, you can first consider whether hiking or Lemko culture will play a bigger role in your travel plans.

Hiking trails by duration and route

The yellow-marked PTTK hiking trail leads from Tylawa to Olchowiec; the walking time is about two and a half hours. This approximate time provides a guide to how long the journey takes. The other two trails are described instead in terms of distance.

A second tour is the 15.2-kilometer Tylawa–Baranie hiking trail. It starts at the church in Tylawa and leads via Smereczne, Wilsznia, and Olchowiec to Baranie. The route connects to the Blue Border Trail via a connecting path. Check local trail conditions before setting off.

The 17.6-kilometer hiking trail leads from the Hermitage of Saint John of Dukla to Dukla Pass and passes through Tylawa. Here, too, check local trail conditions before setting off. At 17.6 kilometers, this route is 2.4 kilometers longer than the Tylawa–Baranie trail. The waypoints also differ: Tylawa–Baranie starts at the church in the village and ends in Baranie; the longer route starts at the hermitage and ends at Dukla Pass.

Lemko culture in nearby Zyndranowa

The Museum of Lemko Culture is in Zyndranowa, 3 km from the turnoff in Tylawa. The ethnographic and historical exhibition also features memorabilia from the Battle of Dukla Pass. For those interested in cultural history, Lemko culture and the memory of the battle at the pass are presented side by side.

Dukla Pass is a point of interest for two different pursuits: it is the destination of the 17.6-kilometer hiking trail and is also represented in the museum through memorabilia from the battle. This lets you include hiking and cultural history in your travel plans without conflating the two subjects.

The chyĹĽa at the museum was built in 1860 and served as a smoke house until 1901; other historic museum buildings date from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The historic buildings are furnished with original household items, agricultural tools, furniture, handicrafts, clothing, and folk art.

The museum hosts the Lemko tradition festival “Od Rusal do Jana” every year. The grounds also occasionally host workshops, including Kiczka turning and shingle splitting. The festival is an annual tradition, while the workshops take place only occasionally. If one of these activities is essential to your visit, check the dates in advance.
