Jasień: Sanctuary and Hiking Trails
Accommodation in Jasień
In Jasień, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Bieszczady and the yellow hiking trail offer two distinct focal points: church architecture and cultural history on the one hand, and route and walking time on the other. The yellow trail leads from the Równia ridge to Jasień and then through the town back to the PKP-PKS railway and bus station.
Sanctuary and Church Architecture
The sanctuary was established on July 7, 1968. The brick church in the Baroque style was built as early as 1740. Thus, 1968 is the year the sanctuary was established, and 1740 is the year the church was built. The sanctuary contains a historic, boat-shaped baptismal font with a sculpture of the infant Jesus and a cross from the mid-18th century. The main altar contains a copy of the painting Our Lady of Bieszczady from Rudki; the original was stolen in 1992. The furnishings also include a Baroque pulpit from the late 17th century with a Rococo sounding board. The pulpit and the cross point to different dates within the furnishings: the pulpit dates to the late 17th century, and the cross to the mid-18th century.
Hiking Trails and Walking Times
In the wider Ustrzyki Dolne travel area, the yellow hiking trail runs from the PKP-PKS railway and bus station through the town and past the stadium to the summit of Gromadzyń at 654 meters. From the Równia ridge, it continues to Jasień and then through the town back to the station. The walking time, excluding breaks, is about two hours. The blue hiking trail also starts at the PKP-PKS railway and bus station, heads toward Brzegi Dolne and climbs the steep slope of Kinia toward Orlik, which is 618 meters high. Before reaching the summit, it turns toward Jasień and leads to the yellow hiking trail; the walking time for this route, excluding breaks, is given as about 1.5 hours. Based on these approximate times, the blue trail is about half an hour shorter. Both times exclude breaks and refer to different routes. Check local conditions before setting out. Gromadzyń is 36 meters higher than Orlik.
Historic Trails in the Wider Travel Area
The Trail of Defensive Structures and Monuments of the Past is the first section of a larger project in the municipality of Ustrzyki Dolne. It includes trenches from the First and Second World Wars on four hills around Ustrzyki Dolne: Kamienna Laworta, Mały Król, Gromadzyń and Orlik. Monuments at the church in Jasień are also part of this trail. The route thus connects monuments at the church with trenches on the hills around Ustrzyki Dolne. The cultural and historical perspective therefore extends from the details of a single church’s furnishings to historic traces in several locations.
