Discover Koszarawa
Accommodation in Koszarawa
Koszarawa brings together three marked hiking trails, a historical tradition of wooden toy making, and the history of the parish of St. Charles Borromeo. The routes differ in direction and destination; the church and cemetery offer a distinct cultural and historical focus.
Choose hiking trails by direction and destination
Three marked hiking trails pass through Koszarawa. The yellow trail runs west from Koszarawa to the student mountain hut on Łosek (868 m), then continues via Przyborów to Korbielów at the foot of the Pilsko Massif (1,557 m). The route thus describes a journey through several named stops to another destination.
The green trail runs from Hucisko through Koszarawa Cicha. Along the way, it passes Czerniawa Sucha (1,062 m), Klekociny Pass (864 m), Mędralowa (1,168 m), and Babia Góra (1,725 m), before ending in Jabłonka. The sequence of stops and elevation figures gives this route a different orientation from the yellow trails described as starting in Koszarawa.
Another yellow trail leads east from Koszarawa in the direction of Lachów Groń (1,045 m), Czerniawa Sucha (1,062 m), and Jałowiec (1,111 m). The three descriptions therefore differ mainly in direction and destination: westward on to Korbielów, through several named stops to Jabłonka, or eastward toward the listed peaks. You can choose according to the direction you prefer and the destinations described. Before setting out, check current trail conditions and markings locally.
Wooden toy-making tradition and local history
Koszarawa is one of the places in Poland with one of the oldest traditions of wooden toy making. Other wooden household items were also made there later. The progression from wooden toys to useful household objects shows that the local craft tradition covered more than one type of item.
The parish of St. Charles Borromeo was established in 1824; the masonry church was consecrated in 1855. It is Late Classical in style and rectangular in plan. Four wooden altar structures with gilded friezes, garlands, and rosettes are among its specific architectural details. The style and floor plan describe the building’s form, while the details mentioned characterize the altar structures more closely.
The cemetery in Koszarawa also preserves historical details: a historic statue of the Virgin Mary stands there, as does a surviving gravestone from 1887. The dates refer to different milestones in the history of the place: 1824 to the establishment of the parish, 1855 to the consecration of the church, and 1887 to the gravestone.
The “Między Łoskiem a Prusokiem” quest
The “Między Łoskiem a Prusokiem” quest begins in the parking lot by the Church of St. Charles Borromeo in Koszarawa. It is described as a mountain route; ankle-high shoes and comfortable clothing are recommended. It is intended for children, young people, families with children, and adults. If you plan to take the quest, check locally beforehand, if needed, whether current materials or arrangements are available.
