Discover Radlin
Accommodation in Radlin
Discover Radlin through several distinct highlights: local industrial history, sport and summer culture. The Szlak Emmy i Marcela route and buildings whose uses were linked to work or sport bring the city’s history to life. The large pool at the municipal sports centre, the brine graduation tower and a path through the park offer more ideas for planning your trip.
Industrial history and Kolonia Emma
The Szlak Emmy i Marcela is a route in Radlin that lets you discover the city through its local industrial history and the people who worked at the city’s mine, coking plant and power station. Kolonia Emma is a specific landmark in this history: the workers’ settlement was built between 1897 and 1913 beside the “Emma” mine.
The buildings on today’s ul. A. Mielęckiego have retained their original appearance. All the houses in Kolonia Emma were built of red brick, with small front gardens outside their entrances. This combines the settlement’s historical context as a workers’ settlement with clearly described features of its appearance.
Sokolnia and Radlin’s sporting history
For more than 90 years, residents have associated the building known in Radlin as “Sokolnia” with a place for gymnastics, particularly artistic gymnastics. Sokolnia was officially opened on 6 and 7 August 1927 and was the first gymnasium of the Towarzystwo “Sokół” in Upper Silesia. The town’s connection with gymnastics can therefore be understood in terms of both its long history and a specific opening date.
Pool, waterslide and jacuzzi
The large pool at the Miejski Ośrodek Sportu i Rekreacji in Radlin measures 25 m × 12.5 m and has six swimming lanes. It is 1.3 m deep at its shallowest point and 1.85 m at its deepest. The large pool also has an 80 m waterslide. The jacuzzi tub is located inside the pool area: it can accommodate five people at a time and has a water temperature of 35 °C.
Brine graduation tower and summer music
The Tężnia solankowa in Radlin was the first brine graduation tower in an industrial area of Upper Silesia and one of the first two in all of Silesia. It is located in the northern part of the city on ul. Wypandów, right on the border with Rybnik, in a green corner along the Szlak Emmy i Marcela and the cycling route between Radlin PKP and Zalew Rybnicki.
“ Tężniogrania” are recurring summer music events held at the brine graduation tower and organised by the Miejski Ośrodek Kultury w Radlinie. If you are planning a summer trip around these events, check the specific dates for your travel dates.
A path through Park Jordanowski
Park Jordanowski has a footpath and cycle path running from ul. Hallera in the centre of Radlin to the monument to the victims of the Reden shaft. Both endpoints of this route are therefore specified. By contrast, the Szlak Emmy i Marcela focuses on the city’s industrial history. The two paths thus offer different points of reference: a route through the park with a clearly described course, and a route with a historical theme.
