In Jankowice Rybnickie, the history of Studzienka, sacred architecture and various routes come together as travel themes. At the spring, a legend, the Marian chapel and two smaller grottos take center stage. There is also the Jankowicki Trail, a pilgrimage route and a blue cycling route. If you are looking for a hotel for your trip, these highlights can help organize your plans: first decide whether Studzienka, church architecture, or a cycling or pilgrimage route should be the focus of your stay.

Studzienka: Legend and Chapel

According to legend, the spring at Studzienka emerged where Father Walenty lost his life and was later buried. The story says that he was murdered by the Hussites around 1430. The water was also believed in the area to have miraculous properties and to be capable of healing illnesses.

At the end of the 19th century, Father Edward Bolik had the chapel built in gratitude for his restored health. It was dedicated to the Virgin Mary and solemnly consecrated on August 15, 1895. The chapel above the grotto in Lourdes, France, served as its model. Inside are sculptures of Our Lady of Lourdes and Bernadette Soubirous kneeling before her.

Studzienka also has two smaller grottos. One is dedicated to Saint Barbara, the patron saint of miners; the other is called the Grotto of the Unemployed. Their different dedications give the grottos distinct themes, while the chapel, with its Marian dedication and Lourdes-inspired design, offers a different religious connection.

Routes through Jankowice and to Sacred Sites

The Jankowicki Trail passes the chapel in the Studzienka woodland and ends at the wooden church in Jankowice. Its route therefore leads from the chapel to another sacred building. The church is also the starting point of Pilgrimage Route No. 323, which runs from Świerklany to Pszów past religious sites and sacred cultural monuments. It is 17.4 km long in total; this length may also change if the route is revised.

The marked blue cycling route No. 292 connects Boguszowice and Jankowice. It crosses Jankowice from northwest to east and joins the Rybnik cycling route there, which loops around Boguszowice. There are comparatively few trail markers on the section in Jankowice. The final section near Jankowice runs partly over gravel and in places over muddy, unpaved ground. Check the markings and surface before your ride, as both may change.

Bożego Ciała Church and the Michał Oak

The wooden Bożego Ciała Church in Jankowice was built in 1675 and is one of the few Silesian churches with a Greek-cross floor plan. This sets its architectural focus apart from the chapel at Studzienka: for the church, it is the distinctive floor plan; for the chapel, its model in Lourdes.

Another landmark is the Michał Oak on Akacjowa Street. It stands on the right-hand side of the road and is described as a monumental tree.

This gives you a choice of different travel focuses: Studzienka brings together a legend, a chapel and grottos; the church combines historic wooden construction with a rare floor plan; and the routes differ in their course and theme. Consider which of these aspects of Jankowice Rybnickie you want to shape your stay.
