Sztumskie Pole: Cycling Routes, Nature and Cultural Heritage
Accommodation in Sztumskie Pole
Sztumskie Pole is located in the Gmina Sztum, in Powiat Sztumski and in the Pomeranian Voivodeship of Poland. Cycling and hiking trails pass through the area, along with routes suitable for horse riding. The landscape and history also offer points of interest of their own: Lake Białe, the Biały Canal and an archaeological site. You can plan your stay around your preferred activity or your interest in nature and cultural heritage.
Cycling routes and hiking trails
The international Euro Route R-1 cycling route passes through Sztumskie Pole. The blue “Nadwiślański” hiking trail also runs through the area and is 76 kilometres long in total. Another cycling route, the marked Szlak Zamków Powiśla, passes through Sztumskie Pole; its total length is 95 kilometres. The two distances refer to different routes and modes of travel: Nadwiślański is a hiking trail, while Szlak Zamków Powiśla is a cycling route. The area also has shared pedestrian and cycling paths. When planning, you can first decide whether to focus on a named cycling route, the hiking trail, or local paths for walking and cycling.
Lake, canal and landscape
Lake Białe is located in Sztumskie Pole and is a forest lake with no outflow. The Biały Canal runs through the area, which is surrounded by forests and meadows. The lake and canal are distinct landmarks: one is a forest lake, while the other is a watercourse through Sztumskie Pole. Together with the trails, these landscape features provide a separate focus for planning your trip, distinct from the route information on distance and mode of travel.
Horse-riding routes and seasonal training
In addition to routes suitable for horse riding, Stajnia Iskra offers seasonal training cycles in spring and autumn. Stajnia Iskra welcomes riders with their own horses as well as auditors to its training programme. The seasonal schedule is important when planning your dates. As the programme may change, it is best to check the current dates before your trip. This lets you consider the local horse-riding routes and training programme as two distinct options: exploring the routes and taking part in the seasonal programme.
Archaeology and cultural heritage
Sztumskie Pole 2, identified as AZP 21-47/9, is an archaeological settlement and cemetery of the Pomeranian culture dating from the 7th to the 6th century BC. The destination of Stuhm offers another historical point of interest: Sztum Castle is a 14th-century Teutonic castle and was the summer residence of the Grand Master of the Teutonic Order. Today it houses a branch of the Muzeum Zamkowe w Malborku. The urban layout of Stuhm’s old town, together with the castle complex, is listed in the Pomeranian Voivodeship’s register of monuments; the listing is dated 16 July 1959. Visitors interested in culture can explore two clearly distinct themes: the archaeological history of Sztumskie Pole and the castle and town history of Stuhm.
More routes in the Stuhm destination
