Pręgowo Górne offers two clear themes to help you plan your trip: hiking trails to the water intake and historic and scenic sites in the surrounding area. If you are looking for a hotel, these themes can help you decide what to focus on during your stay. The trails differ in their starting points and routes; the valley, archaeological traces, and Corpus Christi Church in Pręgowo provide different historical perspectives to help you find your bearings. You can first decide whether you want to plan your trip mainly around hiking or around cultural and landscape themes.

Hiking trails to the water intake

Two hiking trails lead to the water intake in Pręgowo Górne. The blue Kashubian-Żuławy Trail runs from Pruszcz through the Ostróżka Valley; the green Skarszewy Trail runs from Sopot through the Pręgowska Valley. The Skarszewy Trail leaves Pręgowo and then runs through a valley past wells belonging to Gdańsk's drinking water intake. The main difference for your planning lies in the starting point and the valley route: Pruszcz and the Ostróżka Valley contrast with Sopot and the Pręgowska Valley. Check the trail's current condition before setting out.

According to the municipality, the Pręgowo water intake was considered the first facility of its kind in Europe; numerous specialists visited it. It is therefore a historic landmark as well as the destination of both trails.

The valley and archaeological traces

The Pręgowska Valley is U-shaped, with a flat valley floor and a meandering stream. At the end of the valley, traces of a hillfort dating from the 9th to 11th centuries can be found on Góra Zamkowa. The shape of the valley and the course of the stream offer specific landscape features; the hillfort adds an archaeological perspective. In this way, landscape and early history stand alongside one another as distinct themes.

Corpus Christi Church in Pręgowo

Corpus Christi Church in Pręgowo lies in the vicinity of the destination. It was probably built by the Teutonic Knights in the first half of the 14th century. The church preserves colorful frescoes dating from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. They depict scenes from Holy Week and the Last Judgment. The tower was built around 1739 using half-timbered construction and has a pointed roof covered with zinc. The church therefore brings together a probable medieval origin, late medieval wall paintings, and an 18th-century tower.

The church's historic furnishings include a Baroque high altar and choir stalls depicting Noah's Ark. They are complemented by a restored pulpit, a memorial plaque to the heroes of Pręgowo in World War I, an image of Saint Roch, patron saint of the parish, and two Gothic holy-water stoups. The wall paintings, church furnishings, and commemorative features offer different ways to explore the church.

Near the church, you will also find a modern stone Calvary, a historic rectory, and a community room decorated in a regional style, which the Kashubians call “Najo Checz.”

Another point of historical reference

Another historic landmark in the surrounding area is the Pręgowo water supply pipeline, construction of which began in 1869. It adds a 19th-century date to the medieval evidence of the church and the hillfort traces. The different themes can also be distinguished chronologically: from the traces of the hillfort, through medieval church art, to the water supply pipeline.
