Grabin combines a rich church history with historic sites from various centuries and specific nature and cycling attractions. The Church of St. Nicholas, with its history of construction and artworks spanning several centuries, represents Grabin’s ecclesiastical heritage; the historic park, a manor granary, and a fortified settlement site add examples from different periods. This makes it possible to distinguish between ecclesiastical heritage, nature interests, and outdoor activities when planning a trip.

The Church of St. Nicholas and Its History

The parish church of St. Nicholas was built in 1692 and extended in 1728. One of the church bells was cast in 1602 by Piotr Herel of Nysa. The parish church houses a Gothic sculpture of the Virgin Mary from the early 15th century, a Baroque sculpture of Christ from the 18th century, and a sculpture of St. John of Nepomuk dating from 1729. To place these works in context, it is worth looking beyond the year the church was built: the bell and the sculpture of the Virgin Mary are older, while the sculpture of St. John of Nepomuk dates from shortly after the extension. The Church of St. Nicholas is listed as a monument under registration number 1069/66.

Historic Sites in Grabin

In municipal planning documents, the registered fortified settlement site is archaeologically dated to the 13th–14th century, making it older than the later architectural heritage. The historic park dates from the 18th century and is listed as a monument; in 2025, its condition was described as neglected. It is advisable to check the park’s current condition before visiting. The manor granary dates from the 19th century and is also listed as a monument. These sites thus span several different periods, from the fortified settlement site to the manor granary.

Nature and a Stay in the Forest

Nature monument data dated March 7, 2012, list an ordinary beech (Fagus sylvatica) in Grabin with a trunk circumference of 520 cm and a height of 27 m. The information was published on June 25, 2018, and refers to nature monument data dated March 7, 2012. The two dates therefore refer to different data roles: the underlying nature monument data and their publication.

Grabin is one of two forest areas included in the “Zanocuj w lesie” program of the Tułowice Forest District. The program permits camping, including overnight stays, without special infrastructure. The program information dates from 2021; check the current program terms before making plans. This distinguishes the forest experience from a cycling break: the program includes overnight stays, whereas the rest area along the cycle route is for a stop along the way.

Cycling and Getting Your Bearings in Town

The Krasna Góra–Grabin section is part of the “Around Niemodlin” cycle route; a rest area is located in Grabin at the site of the former health resort. The 2010 description mentions tables, benches, and waste bins at rest areas along the cycle route. Before your ride, check the current condition of the route and the rest facilities on site. There is also a multi-purpose sports court and an Open Activity Zone on ulica Nyska. If sports and recreational facilities are of interest to you, both are additional local points of reference.
