Discover Wołczyn
Accommodation in Wołczyn
Wołczyn combines an early market-town history with three churches from different periods and specific destinations such as the Wołczyńskie Saltworks complex and the Teklusia Trail. When planning your stay, you can consider the town’s history, architectural styles and natural features as distinct points of interest. The themes range from the market settlement and the name Fürstenthal to the landscape along the red trail.
Market settlement and historic name
Before Wołczyn was granted town rights, it had a market settlement. It developed thanks to its favourable location on the route between Wrocław and Kraków. In January 1261, the Wrocław duke Henry III the White issued a charter founding the settlement and introduced the name Fürstenthal (Książęca Dolina). This places the existing market settlement and the later charter in a clear chronological sequence. If you are interested in Wołczyn’s development, this distinction is informative: its history began before January 1261, while the date refers to the charter and the introduction of the name.
Churches with different histories
The Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary was built in 1859–1861 in the Neo-Gothic style. The Evangelical church is a brick building dating from 1848, with a tower on a square plan. The filial Church of St. Teresa, formerly the Evangelical Church of St. Barbara, was built in 1770–1799. These dates span the second half of the 18th century to the mid-19th century. The buildings can be distinguished by different features: the Neo-Gothic style defines the Church of the Immaculate Conception; the brick construction and tower shape distinguish the Evangelical church; and the former name and construction period identify St. Teresa. Architecture thus offers a cultural theme in its own right alongside the older history of the settlement.
The Wołczyńskie Saltworks complex
The complex includes two graduation towers with a combined total area of 300 m², an educational pavilion, a brine well and a halophyte garden. It also has paths, benches and lighting, as well as a roller-skating track. It is useful to distinguish the graduation towers from the other features: the 300 m² applies to both towers combined, not to the entire complex. This helps you interpret the area figure correctly while keeping the different features of the site in mind.
A specific location is given for the quest “Przybij piątkę w Wołczynie”: it starts in a car park by the town library at ul. Sienkiewicza 5, near the Wołczyńskie Saltworks with its halophyte garden. This gives you an address and a named landmark to help you find the starting point for the quest.
Teklusia and the protected landscape
The red “Teklusia” trail is 15.23 km long and runs through Wołczyn. It also passes through a Natura 2000 protected area, home to beavers and many protected bird species. Its length gives you an indication of the trail’s extent; its passage through the protected area offers a distinct focus on nature and landscape. If you are interested in protected landscapes and wildlife, Teklusia is a specific point of interest to consider when planning your trip.
Choose Wołczyn to suit your travel interests
When planning your trip, you can choose between cultural history, the facilities at the saltworks and the natural setting of the Teklusia Trail. These offer different ways to experience Wołczyn: from the development of the market settlement and historic churches to a named saltworks complex and a trail through a protected area. First decide which theme matters most to you; this gives you a specific travel interest to start from when choosing a hotel in Wołczyn.
