Raszyn brings together historic buildings and memorial sites, a cycling route, and connections with nature in the municipality. A prominent historical landmark is the Austeria: its history dates back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, and during the 1809 Battle of Raszyn, Prince Józef Poniatowski had his headquarters there. A church, Reduta Raszyńska, the ponds in Falenty, and the Stawy Raszyńskie nature reserve offer further points of interest. Depending on your interests, you can explore Raszyn through its architecture, history, landscape, or cycling.

Austeria: building history and the 1809 battle

The history of the Austeria building dates back to the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries; the building has been restored. The Austeria complex is also one of the surviving elements of Raszyn’s historic urban layout in the town center. During the 1809 Battle of Raszyn, Prince Józef Poniatowski had his headquarters in the Austeria. This building thus brings together the historical development of the town center and a specific episode from the battle.

Art in the Austeria

The works of art on display in the Austeria also relate to the battle. Visitors can see copies of paintings of the Battle of Raszyn by January Suchodolski and Wojciech Kossak, as well as vedute by Canaletto. Vedute are city views. The copies of the paintings depict a specific event, while the vedute show a different subject. Art lovers will find different subjects in the Austeria, alongside its historical role as a headquarters.

Church and memorial sites

The Roman Catholic parish church of Św. Szczepana i św. Anny in Raszyn is a Baroque-Classical church and a valuable architectural monument dating from the 17th century. Its architectural style adds a sacred building to the perspective on the Austeria’s building history. Reduta Raszyńska offers another historical point of interest: it commemorates the 1809 Battle of Raszyn and those who fell in the First World War. Raszyn thus offers both an architectural theme and a specific memorial site.

Falenty and Stawy Raszyńskie

There are eleven ponds in Falenty, in the municipality of Raszyn. This extensive area provides a habitat for around 130 bird species. The Stawy Raszyńskie nature reserve, including its buffer zone, covers just under 350 hectares. Alongside the historic sites, these ponds, habitats, and land area provide a way to understand the area’s connection with nature.

Cycling through much of the municipality

The cycling route is more than 7.1 kilometers long and runs from the Warsaw boundary along Aleja Krakowska through Raszyński Park. It continues along Stadionowa, Raszyńska, Warszawska, and Górna streets. The route passes through much of the municipality of Raszyn; the municipality announced its completion in June 2022. The different features offer different points of focus: the Austeria is connected with building and battle history, while the cycling route is described in terms of its course and length.
