Podkowa Leśna can be explored through two distinctive themes: the wooden architecture of its summer colony and the cultural history of Stawisko, as well as the trails in Młochowski Forest. The town park also adds its own natural touch. When choosing the town for a stay, you can distinguish between literary and cultural history, walks, and marked trails for various activities.

Historic Wooden Buildings

The single-storey wooden house “Zabytek” is the oldest house in Podkowa Leśna and a remnant of the Stanisławów summer colony from the late 19th century. The wooden villa “Aida” offers a different perspective: Stanisław Wilhelm Lilpop had it built in the Swiss style around 1900 as a hunting lodge. In the 1920s, it became the Iwaszkiewicz family’s summer house. To understand the town’s history, it is worth distinguishing between these connections: “Zabytek” is primarily associated with the summer colony, while “Aida” is notable for its transition from hunting lodge to later summer house.

Stawisko and Its Cultural History

Stawisko serves as a museum dedicated to Anna and Jarosław Iwaszkiewicz. After the writer’s death in 1980, it became state property in accordance with his wishes as expressed in his will. The museum’s interior has preserved its original character. At the same time, the tradition of the literary and musical salon continues at Stawisko. The house museum, family history and salon tradition thus give the place several distinct cultural associations. For visitors with a particular interest in literature, both the museum’s history and this continuing cultural role are central.

Forest Trails and the Seasons

Młochowski Forest is crisscrossed by numerous well-marked and maintained hiking, cycling and horse-riding trails, and is suitable for weekend recreation throughout the year. The map of Podkowa Leśna and Młochowski Forest shows three well-marked circular cycling routes: a short, a medium and a long one. In winter, these routes also serve as cross-country ski trails. The activities on offer therefore vary with the seasons, while the three circular routes provide short, medium and long options.

A nature trail in the area of Podkowa Leśna and Młochowski Forest has 14 stations. They explain natural and cultural features of the places along the route. The trail therefore focuses not only on the landscape but also includes cultural themes from the places it passes through.

The Town Park as a Distinct Natural Area

Podkowa Leśna’s town park is a place for adults to take walks. Children use it to play in the snow in winter, when there is snow. As a landscape, it is a somewhat neglected, largely natural mixed forest, where pines and oaks predominate. Its character therefore differs from the marked hiking, cycling and horse-riding trails in Młochowski Forest: here, the mixed woodland and use for walks or winter play define the experience.
