For your travel planning, Bieganów offers two distinct points of interest: PTTK Route No. 4, which passes through the village, and its historical connection with the once densely forested Puszcza Jaktorowska. The Wydmy Międzyborskie protected landscape area adds a geological and scenic highlight in the municipality of Jaktorów. The route and the dunes represent different themes: a named connection through Bieganów and the natural history of an area within the municipality.

Route No. 4 through Bieganów

The PTTK collection presents hiking and cycling routes as day trips in general; Route No. 4 is also listed there. It connects Żyrardów with Radziejowice and Mszczonów via Międzyborów, Bieganów and Las Radziejowicki; the route is about 20 kilometres long. Its course places Bieganów within a longer connection, while the distance given refers to the route as a whole. This lets you distinguish the village’s connection from the tour’s total distance. An older PTTK publication lists the route; check its current course and conditions before setting out.

Historical landscape setting

Bieganów was one of the villages in the area of the once densely forested Puszcza Jaktorowska. This forest landscape no longer exists today. The connection is historical: it places the village in an earlier landscape era. Unlike Route No. 4, which describes a connection through Bieganów, the Puszcza tells the story of a forest landscape from the past. For travellers interested in the region’s past as well as a hiking or cycling route, this connection offers a second perspective on the village.

Wydmy Międzyborskie in the municipality of Jaktorów

A distinct landscape highlight lies in the western part of the municipality of Jaktorów. The Wydmy Międzyborskie protected landscape area covers 31.46 hectares and includes land in the northern part of Międzyborów. The dunes are sandy rises formed after the glacier retreated, under Arctic climatic conditions during the last North Polish glaciation, also known as the Baltic glaciation. The glacier’s retreat preceded the formation of the dunes, while the Arctic conditions characterize the period in which they formed. The area and its formation explain two different aspects of this landscape area.

Educational trail and stops

An educational trail runs through Wydmy Międzyborskie, highlighting distinctive parts of the dunes. Its stops include a 160-year-old pine designated as a natural monument and the 1863 Insurgents’ Cross. Nature and remembrance thus meet along the same educational trail. If you are planning a visit, check current access and trail conditions in advance.

For travel planning, it is easy to distinguish between the highlights. Route No. 4 offers a specific course and an approximate total length; Wydmy Międzyborskie are notable for their geological formation, protected area and educational trail. If you are looking for a hotel in Bieganów, first consider whether the route through the village or the municipality’s landscape features will be the main focus of your stay.
