Pszczew: Nature Trails, Local History and the Market
Accommodation in Pszczew
Pszczew lies in the central part of Pszczew Landscape Park, by Lake Kochle. You can also choose from several distinct themes when planning a stay: two trails of different lengths and with different focuses, nature education, local history and recurring events.
Trails by length and character
The “Wokół pszczewskiej Góry Wysokiej” nature trail is about 5 km long and takes approximately 2.5 hours to walk. It starts and ends next to a historic forester’s lodge at 3 Kasztanowa Street, by Lake Miejskie. You can take the approximate duration into account when planning your day. As trail conditions may change, check them before setting out.
The “Pszczew dawniej i dziś” cultural and nature trail is about 2 km long and leads through the charming streets of Pszczew. The trails therefore differ not only in length: the nature trail focuses on natural history, while “Pszczew dawniej i dziś” combines cultural and nature themes along a route through the town’s streets. This lets you decide whether the longer route with its approximate walking time or the shorter route through Pszczew is a better fit for your plans.
Landscape and nature education
Another nature-focused attraction is the Ośrodek Edukacji Przyrodniczej, established in 1999 near Lake Szarcz in Pszczew. It serves as the educational and scientific base of Pszczew Landscape Park. The Ośrodek features a permanent nature exhibition; its contents may change. If you plan to visit the exhibition, check for current information before your visit. This offers two different ways to explore nature topics: a trail and the exhibition at the Ośrodek.
Local history and events
Dom Szewca, a historic wooden residential building from the second half of the 18th century, stands in Pszczew’s market square. A reconstruction of the workshop and shop of shoemaker Feliks Paździorek has been set up in Dom Szewca. The building and the reconstruction highlight different aspects: the history of a residential house and the portrayal of a specific trade.
Jarmark Magdaleński has been held in Pszczew since 1994. Each year, artisans and craftspeople gather in the market square, where their products are available to buy. The event takes place regularly, but dates and the programme may change. If the market is a deciding factor for your trip, check the specific event dates. Another annual event is Pszczewska Dwudziestka, held during the first ten days of May. Here too, it is advisable to check the specific date before planning a trip around it.
Plan your stay
For practical trip planning, the distinction is clear: when choosing a trail, you can compare length and character; for an event, the specific date determines the timing.
