Gryzyna: Nature Trails and a Castle Park
Accommodation in Gryzyna
Natural Areas and Trails
If you would like to plan your stay in Gryzyna around nature trails or historic sites, the area offers two distinct highlights: Gryżyński Landscape Park and the castle with its parkland. The landscape park includes Gryżyna and extends across the glacial Gryżyna tunnel valley. You can explore nature and local history as distinct themes of your trip.
The Gryżyński Potok is the park’s main river and rises in Gryżyna. It is also known as Gryżyna or Gryżynka. Since Gryżyna is both a place name and a river name, the name Gryżyński Potok helps distinguish the watercourse from the place.
The Gryżyńskie Uroczyska nature trail is a circular route approximately 7.5 kilometres long, starting and ending in the village of Gryżyna. It runs from Gryżyna along the river and around Staw Bartno and Lake Kałek. Its landscape features glacial formations, ravines, springs and unique plant communities. Ten information boards provide details about local wildlife, plants and geology; a green leaf symbol marks the trail. Its length and circular route give you practical guidance when planning to include this loop in your trip.
If you are planning a longer hike, there is also a black hiking trail from Błonie via Gryżyna and Grabin to Nietkowice. It is approximately 23 kilometres long. This trail is considerably longer than the nature trail. The routes also differ in shape: one starts and ends in Gryżyna, while the other passes through several places. You can compare the two trails by length and route.
Another option is a cycling and hiking tour from Gryżyna to Grabin. Its first section follows a hiking trail through the landscape park. Unlike the two hiking trails, this tour focuses on combining cycling and hiking.
Castle and Parkland
The Gryżyna castle complex includes a castle built around 1820 using the walls of an older building dating from the 17th or 18th century. The castle thus combines its 19th-century construction with the walls of an earlier building.
The castle park was created in the first half of the 19th century. Its features include hills, landscaped clearings, ponds and streams; walking paths lead to viewpoints. The grounds offer a different focus from the nature trail: here, the emphasis is on park features and paths to viewpoints, while the trail highlights landforms and nature information boards.
The Hohenzollern family mausoleum was built in the castle park in 1872 in simple Neoclassical forms. Within the historic grounds, the castle, dating to around 1820, and the 1872 mausoleum therefore stand as buildings from distinct periods.
